#44973, "Question about getting an intercooler"

1. Is intercooler piping expensive to have custom made?

2. Would custom made piping be reliable?

3. How much would you say a 1G or 2G sidemount would go for from a junkyard?

4. Will I need to make changes to my fuel components (I'm running an S-FMU) if I get an intercooler but stay at 5 psi or can I just keep the setup I have now?

5. Will it just take me longer to hit 5 psi w/ an IC or will I only get 4 psi? Someone on here told me before that you lost a lb. of boost but I wasn't clear on what he meant.

6. If it takes longer to hit that 5 psi or if I'm only getting 4 psi would getting a boost controller set to 6 psi help?

I'm aware I sound like a babbling moron but these are questions I had that I just haven't been sure about.

When adding an intercooler, you may lose a tad bit of boost pressure through it. YOu would need to buy a manual boost controller and just adjust back to 5psi. No problem.

1. Intercooler piping tends to be a but pricey unless you got the hookup or do some ghetto piping like me

2. It's all about the design of the piping itself

3. I got a 1G sidemount for 60 bucks shipped, at Ebay

4. When we installed mine, I just kept my SFMU the way it was before the intercooler install. I was runnning a bit rich then, it's always a good idea to run a tad more rich when you are cooling boosted air.

5. Yes, you will lose boosted pressure, depends on intercooler and piping setup

6. You won't necesarrily take longer to reach 5 psi, if it did, I sure hell didn't notice on mine (and yes a boost controller will help)

Armond's\HRC lower IC piping = 40 bux
1G SMIC = 60 bux
Misc. hoses, clamps, and a small exhaust pipe at Pep Boys = 45 bucks

Even though they are ghetto, it works, and I'm at a Stage 2 setup for less than 150 bucks.

Stage 2 boost levels is another story though emoji emoji
