The basic differences is that an internal wastegate is built into the turbo and makes the exhaust bypass the turbo internally, controlling the amount of boost. External wastegates vent the exhaust gasses to the atmosphere. Internal wastegates are probalby better for lower boost, while external wastegates are better for higher boost applications. Internal and external wastegates probably control boost well at lower PSI, but external wastegates alleviate boost creep at higher PSI. If youre planning on running large amounts of boost sometime in the near future, id suggest getting an external. If youre only going to run a t-25, 14b, or 16g, its not wise to spend the extra money on an external wastegate until you really need it.

For example, im going to be running a 14b turbo at about 6psi until I rebuilt. Even after the rebuilt, im probably going to run about 12-15 psi. Eventually I plan to upgrade to a 16G or a S16G, but even running stock boost levels (10psi) doesnt facilitate an external wastegate. Most of the 4G63 people from my local DSM club run externals when they reach about 18-20psi.

Search for Motofool. He has a hookkup and is having them made to fit whatever turbo you need. I think he is in the 225-275 ish range. Or if your doing a 14b you can have alain95i4 make one for you.
