#44073, "questions on a 25 shot"

umm im tired of loosing to integras......so i just wanted to get my nitrous first since its cheaper than that damn turbo..... MY initall ideal was to have a stage 2 hrc + a 25 shot for an extra kick in the ass.......well the turbo is takin longer than i expected so im going NOS first..... Have you guys heard anything on a 25 shot, is such a small shot that it will be just a waist of time???? and how much (average) is a 25 shot, I was thinkin of spending around 500. (p.s ill be doing interals too)

Hmmm.... i dunno man, i know they make cheater kits with real little bottles that run low shots. if i were you id go with a 50-shot, thats really safe...might be more than 500 bucks though unless you can find a used one. call NOS and ask them if they have 25-shot jets cause im not sure if they do...well, i guess i really havent helped at ALL...but i tried! emoji

If I'm not mistaken, NOS makes a "Sneaky Pete" kit, which is a 20 shot, and the 10oz. bottle fits anywhere pretty much. Only problem is its for carbureted engines only. Maybe it can be modified? It only costs around $350 or so. This is all from memory, so you would have to check on it for sure.

Ah, found a link.....no prices though...

Here is the carparts.com link:

If you really do want to go with a 25 shot the closest and cheapest would be the cheater kit but as Stan stated above it would have to be modifyed. Otherwise you are looking at around $500 + for a normal kit and around $10 for new jets.

It is safe to run up to a 70 shot (personal preference) on stock internals as long as nitrous is all you are using. If you are going turbo & nitrous I wouldn't do it on stock internals.

I hope you do understand that if you go turbo and nitrous you may need a much more agresive fuel setup than just turboing it.

the general opinions around here is that the engine can handle up to a 75 shot without any problems to the engine , and without the need for upgrades (they recommend a higher flow fuel pump, but its not necessarily needed until after 75 shot), that is considering you dont misuse the nitrous- see stan's post called "In regards to safety" in this nitrous folder- it is very helpful and it makes you aware of misuse of nitrous, and the damage you can cause by abusing it.

I paid a total of about $650 for my kit and accesories. That was an NOS kit with a fancy arming switch, bottle heater, and a nitrous pressure gauge. The kit has jets for 50, 60, and 70 shots. I paid something like $480 shipped from carparts for the kit itself and the switch($30). I used the 15% off coupon to get that deal.

i have a 50 shot on mine and it was going fine til a few days ago, i either have blown up my o2 sensor, a valve, gasket, or rod (or all of the above), either way i can't go over 4k rpms and it stalls a lot...but its worked fine for about 6 months...any more than 50 shots thou and you should get some internal work done...and you have to remember, if you have really full bottle pressure (like by using a bottle warmer) it'll result in a "higher" shot (even if you only have a 50 shot jet on there)

No it wont. Without a bottle warmer your probably not getting the rated power 90% of the time. It would be silly to rate a kit at less than optimum bottle pressure. NX dyno test on several vehicles show there kits run at almost exactly what they say at the wheels. NOS kits usually run much less than what they rate at the wheels (they rate at the crank). The only thing too high a pressure will do is possibly cause a solinoid to lock up but I havent ever witnessed such heat/pressure that has caused that. Even if true a one time hit of 80 or even 100hp is unlikely to kill our engine. NX put 150hp shot on a stock neon SOHC and ran several passes at low 13s before blowing it up in the parking lot bouncing on the limiter. Joe P and others have ran for yrs on 50 and 60shots. I've never ran less than 70hp and the only problem I had on a stock engine was a bearing go bad likely from too little oil. Never had anything go wrong on a nitrous run.
