#43433, "installing nx kit tomorrow 2 questions!"

well maybe more..

1) do i need to take out the dash or center console?
2) where is a convenient/ easy place to mount the switches? (i only have the on/off and bottle heater so far)
3) is all the wiring done at the fuse box under the hood or do i need to pull wires from under the dash?
4) where did you guys mount the bottle? Do I need to drill holes?
5) running the line.. I guess I'll run it under the carpet on the passenger side and out that way.. how do i get at the hose then? Will i need a lift to get under the car at any time?

TIA guys =)

No need to do that. You can get to wiring up near the clutch pedal. All my wiring runs throough right there.

>2) where is a convenient/ easy

>(i only have the on/off
>and bottle heater so far)

Any where you want. May want to come up with a good sleeper install. Hide the power and heater switches somewhere easy to get to. Hide the bottle under the spare tire cover. Hide the solenoids and have the nozzle underneither the intake. }> Pure Sleeper.

>3) is all the wiring done
>at the fuse box under
>the hood or do i
>need to pull wires from
>under the dash?

You can do it however you want to. I would make the nitrous it's own power circuit. I wouldn't use the power from the cig lighter for that.

>4) where did you guys mount
>the bottle? Do I
>need to drill holes?

I would mount it in the hatch area somewhere. You may want to bolt the bottle brackets to the spare tire cover.

I would suggest running the line in to the spare tire well and out one of the pre-made holes in the tire well. Run the line all the way to the front of the car. You could probably strap it up near the fuel line and then you can come right up in the back side near the firewall to connect to the solenoid. It's pretty easy to lift up the passenger side of the car and get under it to the fuel line.

Personally, I put my switches underneath my cd player. But like Kyle said, you can put them wherever you wish. I also put the nozzle underneath my intake pipe, sleeper emoji ! And as far as the Nitrous line, zip tie that bitch all the way up to the front of the car along your fuel line. Hope that helps!

nitro/purge/gauge runs right near the throttle body, mounted to an aluminum plate screwed into the back of the firewall. the purge runs out right under the hood between the wipers. the nitro line runs from the left side of the trunk to the right, up the right side of the car (underneeth, and it can't be touched if i bottom out either, its above the bottom bar). the line comes out in the right (passengar) side wheel well and goes across the back side of the engine. the fuel is mounted w/ an aluminum plate on rightmost screw of that big grey thing (is that still considered the part of the tb?) it got knocked off thou b/c i think the hood it it. going to get that fixed soon. i put the switches on my steering wheel and the heater switch on the dash. any questions i can tell you how i made it.

ps i'm curious how the electronics of a nitro system (nx maybe?) work. i didn't install mine, but i'd like to know how the hell it knows to turn on a 3400 rpms (after the system is actviated and at wot) ?? like where do my switch wires go. i've rewired it and moved the switches a few times and stuff like that, i know how the purge is connected and all, but where does the nitro go? is there a black box somewhere controlling it that i don't know about?

for more pics goto

If it's a kit with a WOT switch, it doesn't know to turn on at 3400, you have to do this by controlling your foot. The switch arms it, the WOT switch activates it, don't floor it till after 3000 rpm it's that easy.

my kit doesn't kick in til 3400 rpms. when i had a 50 shot i'd floor it in first and it would fly up and the nitro would turn on at that rpm level.... ???

What NX kit do you have?
Also could it be that it just took that much time to get from the bottle to the engine? (unless you used the purge of course emoji )
I mean you installed it, if you had a little extra black box to install other than the WOT switch emoji

i don't know which model nx kit i have, a shop ordered it. and no, it didn't just take that much time. its set and that rpm level. like i'll purge it and it'll respond IMMEADEATLY when i'm above 3400, but if i'm below it won't shoot til i get to that level. i've tested it. and i didn't install it, the shop did. this was way back in the day. my thoughts are this. i'd LOVE to do installs, but i don't have the tools, time, or know how to do it right the first time. i mean this board is helping A LOT, don't get me wrong, but i'd opt for it to be very clean than a hack job by me if you know what i mean. either way, the same shop that did my nitro system is going to do my turbo (**if i get the $$ by xmas, if not it won't be installed til spring break next semester). like i said before, i'd LOVE to do my turbo, but i KNOW it would take me forever and a day and i know i'd run into problems b/c i don't have the tools or i can't get something off or i screwed up a part or something doesn't fit exactly etc etc (by getting it from the shop i get the kit, install, and tuning on a dyno for 1k more than a loaded up star kit or the basic hrc stage2) of course maybe i'm just over analyzing it.

Sorry, I thought you installed it yourself.
The shop that put it in could have ordered the kit that has it RPM activated, or they could have bought it extra. I mean there is such a thing just most kits don't come with it. Honestly I don't know where they would put it, it would have to be inline with the wiring and hooked up to the tach wire somewhere.

It sounds to me like the shop installed an RPM Switch with a 3200 RPM Chip. Check out item numbers 15879 and 15800 on this page of the NOS catalog.

How is your cockpit nitrous gauge installed? I'm getting ready to install my NOS 5208 kit and I'm not sure how to plumb the nitrous to the a-pillar gauge. Is yours just T'd at the bottle? I was thinking that nitrous may stay in the line but purging should clear it, right? There are so many different type of fittings, look...

LAST EDITED ON 05-Nov-01 AT 05:15 AM (PST)

thanks.
and my gauges i did install (woohoo!) my a pillar nitro gauge has a 6' braided line comeing off of it that goes down to the rubber around the base of the steering colmn and out a little slit i cut and into the engine bay. it goes up to the top of the engine and i mounted it right before my purge kit which mounts right before the nitro selinoid (sp?). thus is measures the pressure at the front of the car AND i can tell if i ever have any leaks in the system or whatever (AND those lines were expensive as butt, that 6' line cost me like 40+$, i tried the 4' but it was about a foot too short.) i just went to a shop (different shop) here in gainesville that did nitro for domestic cars and told them what i needed. a T-fitting for a nitro system. one 2 sides took nitro lines and the other side went into the other side of the purge kit. they make many different T-setups, just get the one you need for how u're hooking it up. just remember there's a difference between pipethread and 4an line.

ps. actually the thing i got looks kindof more like the fuel thing on the right side of that nos page, except there were more out's than in's. (all the official T fittings they had in the store weren't exactly what i needed, but they knew what i was doing and got what i wanted.) it is a T, and its made by nos, and it says on the package it was a t fitting, just didn't look like a normal t fitting. i'm babling again.
