Ok, I am only seeing 3psi max when I am at full throttle. I called the HRC tech line and got a few small things fixed, but I am still only seeing 3psi. I put my hand under the BOV while the car was idling and felt a good bit of air coming out. Is this the reason I am only seeing 3psi? the boost gauge is set up properly and is working without leaks, so it has to be with the intake system. There are no exhaust leaks.

Anyone with some advice?

I've heard of problems with the 3000GT BOVs in the HRC kit...Have Bill send you a new one, or just retrofit an after market BOV if you have a couple extra bucks left. That should remedy your problem.

Well I tried my friend's old stock BOV from his TSi and it did the same....so I don't think it has anything to do with the BOV itself. Is there anything else that could cause the problem?

I recommend going to MachVmotorsports and ordering a JK (Jason King) Boost leak detector. Youre gonna need one anyhow down the road so consider it a cheap investment. They cost $30.00.

You could also rig on up as Wyatt has. I have one myself but haven't had a chance to hook it up to an air compressor. The 4g63 guys rave about it though. I'd be willing to wager that anyone of us who haven't done a leak test probably has at least 1-2 or more leaks somehere in our boost system. It's a very common and overlooked part to a good turbosystem.

I'm of course guessing you have a leak somewhere...it's just not easy to see. It could be at the wastegate to the compressor connection as well as the pipes or BOV.

I use to have a White 99 GS Sport with a Star Stage II Ball Bearing T3/T4 turbo...it was fun untill....well those who remember me know Oh Ya...this is what I have now... a 99' GSX...

I agree with the leak tester, but if he is stage 1 that leaves"almost" nowhere to have a boost leak. I mean come on its only 2 connectors if he was stage 2 and had several connectors I would fell very strongly about the leak, but its not. I also believe in HRC and their product, so it is hard to say. I would recheck all your lines (vacum and your small boost lines) that are around the plenuim area. It is prob one of those that poped off and you have not found it. Or one maybe cracked and leaking. Dont get me wrong, buy the tester, but I bet you could prob find this prob without it.

I thought the same thing myself (only two connections), however I can think of very little besides that which could cause a loss in boost (especially 2 lbs!). Besides, most anyone with a stage 1 will eventually go stage 2 and over time, and leaks just happen. I remember when Wyatt first used his tester and discovered a surprising amount of leaks as well. I think anyone who used one (even if they thought their system was running tip-top) would be surprised to see a couple of small leaks.

One other possibility does come to mind right now as well and that's the boost guage may have a leak somewhere. (the leak tester might detect that as well)

Is it normal though to have air coming out of the BOV when the engine is idling? It doesn't happen to my friend's TSi.

No. I was only hitting 3-4psi too and that is the first thing I checked, but I couldn't tell with the fan on. I think my BOV could be leaking a bit. I'm using a stock 2g BOV, because my HKS SS BOV is on back order. I couldn'tfigure out why I wasn't getting 5psi with the stage one pipes on, there just isn't very many places for it to leak. I re-check all the lines and pipes and all were fine. The BOV was the one thing I couldn't really be sure of. That's when I turned to the boost gauge. It was sitting below zero with the car off and even with the gauge disconnected. I adjusted it and now I hit alittle over 5psi, probably because I adjusted it too much. I will take off my GF boost guage and try it just to see. What does your gauge read with the car off?

The gauge has a square for the "0" rather than a line, and the needle is in that square. Granted, it is more to the left of the square, but it is in there. Bill Hahn said that while the needle may not be completey accurate when the car is off, when under boost or vacuum it is dead on.

There is still air coming out of my BOV at idle. That is the problem I think. There are no other leaks in my system. I can't figure it out.

check it the vacuum line is hooked up correctly.. you want to use one off of the tree (three manifold vacuum taps) at the back of the intake manifold. Your BOV is supposed to be closed at idle.

The BOV thing is normal.. Here's whats happening with it at idle.
I am sure everyone is aware by now that when you close your throttle the blow off valve opens, because the solenoid gets lifted by the vacuum created by the motor, therefore venting all boost. So when your car is idling the throttle is closed meaning its creating vacuum which is keeping the bov open.

So if thats how it works with all turbosystems, how come none of the turbo cars in the DSM club here have air coming out of their BOV at idle? just seems odd that my car is the only one that it happens to, and I can't get it over 4psi....seems like a likely place for a leak.
