I ran the boost guage just as the directions have noted. I have changed that setup slightly as of late though. I use a true vacuum line all the way past the firewall throught he steering boot and THEN to the nylon tube.(instead of running the nylon tube though the firewall) A small round brass fitting and brass nut should go around the end of the nylon tube so that it meets the vacuum line to from a compression-like fitting.(i.e. by having the brass nut actually screw on the vacuum line and the round brass fitting inside creating the compression seal) The directions should explain.
As far as the EGT guage, I used a Westach 1/8th inch K-style bayonnet probe. It was the smallest they offered and came with some options. It came with both a weld-on bung and a compression nut. I had a machine shop use a NPT tap and drill a hole approximately 3-4" away on the #4 runner bend using only the compression nut. It's right on the bend as well, pointing slightly downward at a 30 degree angle.
I don't know how intrusive the autometer probe is, but my probe fit fine. (At first, I was worried as well, but after examintion, I realized it was fine.)
As far as any worries regarding the probe falling through the blades, that could be a concern. However, most every 4g63 turbohead employs this location without much in worries. If that happens, it happens. However, when a probe starts to wear, it becomes really deteriorated and almost disintegrates. I'm guessing my probe will stop working before it actually falls off and if it does fall off, I suspect it will be mostly ashes.
One thing of note. Before you install that autometer probe, realize that your particular probe has rated VERY poorly amongst the 4g6 crowd. Apparently the probe (not the guage itself) has a very slow response time. Didn't want to insult your probe or anything, but before you install it, I just wanted you to know the results of some of my own research. Many 4g6 people use the Westach probe (which costs like $25-$35) and the Autometer guage.
Good luck and keep us tuned in! I hope your cruise control relocation project goes smoothly. :p Also the turbo on the turbo exhaust manny is a tight fit, but keep at it and it'll go in like butter! Oh and start putting rust loosener on the cat bolts a couple of days ahead. As a a matter of fact, wrap a rag on there saturated in rust loosener.
