many of my friends who are experienced with turbos say that garrett and turbonetics(t3/t4) turbos are better than the hahn super 16G befcause of spool-up time and top end. The super 16G from hahn can make damn near 400hp according to their site so i'm wondering if their is truth to the superiority of the other turbos due to this? thanks.

it's very difficult to have a nice low spoolup AND a killer top end. the 16g has a decent top end, and i get partial boost at around 2700 rpm's and full boost around 3000 rpm's. i hear the t3/t4 has a much better top end but spools at 3500+ rpm's depending on your setup (exhaust, cat or not, electronic boost controller, etc...) i'd rather have a lower spool, much more fun for around town. for the drag strip is another story.

few people have been able to get 400 horses out a setup running a 16g. i think that JustOne has about all the mods you can do but the kitchen sink and he has 350 horses. i bet you'd have to do some crazy porting, larger valves, and 10.5:1 pistons to run lower boost (slightly higher compressor efficiency) to get that kind of power. would be a bitch to tune too - not much margin for error with high compression pistons like that.
so yeah. if you're looking into getting a turbosystem, go with the 16g. you can always upgrade it to a 20g (about the same as a t3/t4) later for about $500 if you really need to. it's a lot more fun to run a stage 1 or stage 2 setup with a smaller turbo, larger ones are overkill for less than 10-15 psi.

turbo is a turbo pretty much....they have been around for a LONG time, and there really isnt much difference between the two other than actual size, and the T3/T4 has the ball bearing option, like i have. mine spools 13psi by about 3200rpm, but i also have 10.5 compression. unless you want a 500 HP beast, you will be happy with either turbo. www.TeamKLR.com 1997 Silver RS 12.3@118mph,20psi, race gas(drag radials) Wiseco 10.5 Pistons Eagle Rods T3/T4 Turbo Custom FMIC Greddy Exhaust 440's
