#39298, "Ok almost done with my kit install but a few more q's."

OK thanks for all that helped on my previous post. Got everything put on except for the FMU and the guages hooked up.
1. Can someone please tell me or link me to GOOD instructions on how to hook up the vortech FMU, which lines connect where and so forth. Pics if possible.
2. OK the downpipe is a PITA as well. I cannot get the bottom 2 bolts in that connect the dp to the turbo. It looks like the hole were drilled off center or somethin. Any suggestions? and on the cat I couldnt get one bolt back in so i had to take a longer skinnier bolt and put it thru and put a nut on the other end to tighten it down. Will this be ok or what can i do to fix it.
3. It says to take off the map sensor in the star instructions. If so what do you put in its place. I bypassed it with the fcd but do i really need to take out the map sensor?
4. Last thing can someone link me or post something for the ECU pinouts so i can hook my fuel cut defender better so i dont have 2 wires going to the battery.
Thanks in advance. emoji

i had to bend my downpipe out a little to get it to fit. u should probably try to connect it to the turbo first, then try to match it up to the cat.

keep the map sensor on. you dont need to touch it until u decide u dont like fuel cut anymore and you buy a missing link.

yeah that downpipe is bitch but you'll get it in, everything should fit, it just fits really tight. If I were you I would have a flex section welded in b4 you put that in, it makes it much easier to install.

the very top part of the fmu goes to manifold vacuum pressure, the 90 degree fitting is the inlet which connects to the stock fpr, and the one on the bottom is the outlet to the gas tank.

So does fuel actually run through the FMU or is it just vacuum? I am about to install my NER kit but the instructions say nothing about installing the FMU, FCD, or inline fuel pump. I have a 98 GS, do I need to run a return line?

yes the fuel does go through the fmu. as boost goes up the fmu restricts the flow of fuel going through it and this forces more fuel to go through the injectors. When you are not boosting the fuel just runs like it would normally so yes you will need to hook up the return line for the excess fuel to get back to the tank.

well if you have a star kit your going to run into a few problems w/ the dp..its a huge pita...the easiest way to do it is to just cut the flange off that mates to the turbine housing...just cut it off...next make sure that all of your bolts and holes mate up ok..if not hog the holes out a little more to help this out...once your ok there put your o2 sensor on the dp and get it hooked up to the cat...then have a buddy tack weld the dp in the position its in, undo your bolts from everywhere and have the welder finish the whole flange to dp weld..simple and way less of a pain then fighting w/ that stupid thing...never used the fmu b/c i went to 8 inj so cant' help you there...and just to help out a little more i would do the return line for the oil very last to make sure its not in the dp's way or in the way of the o2 sensor...i did mine first and the dp fit ok but the o2 sensor was hitting it...what a pain...if you know someone who has a portable welder, just a wire welder, its really easy..i'd also relocate the intercooler piping, there is a lot that can be removed if you don't go through the fender well and take it right beside the radiator..theres a perfect spot there where you can remove some metal from the chassis

400whp or bust.

where do I mount the FMU? The NER instructions say to put it by the stock FPR (under the car for my 98).

We are in the same boat. I put mine by the vin plate under the hood. So I run a line from the top nipple and T into the vac line on the intake mani. The middle line is the inlet and bottom is outlet. So does the inlet go to the schrader valve on the fuel rail and outlet to the stock fpr and when i run that line back do i T into the fuel line or what?

From what I've read the FMU goes after the stock fpr. I read that a few times. It could be wrong but I'm pretty damn sure it's right emoji If anyone else knows for sure.

to run the return line do you need to tap a hole in the gas tank. Sorry, but Im lost on the whole FMU/inline pump/return line gimmick.

ok, theres no tapping the gas tank. heres how it goes....

the hose that is circled in red comes off the stock fpr and into the outlet of the fmu. then you connect a hose from the inlet of the fmu to the stock fpr where you just removed the hose. then just connect the last nipple to a vaccuum source on the intake manifold.

anyone else confused by that when you first read it^^^^^^^. But what I think he is trying to say is the outlet line that goes from the stock fpr to the tank gets unattached from the fpr and attached to the outlet on the FMU. Then you run a line from the FMU inlet to the stock fpr's outlet. So the fuel goes tank->injectors->fpr->FMU->tank, repeat emoji Does that help?

dude, this part right here doesn't make any sense.

>ok, theres no tapping the gas tank. heres how it goes....

the hose that is circled in red comes off the stock fpr and into the outlet of the fmu.

ok-but what happens to the original hose that was attached to it

>then you connect a hose from the inlet of the fmu to the stock fpr where you just removed the hose.

huh???? i thought that i was supposed the connect the line to the outlet on the fmu like you said in the first sentence.

> then just connect the last nipple to a vaccuum source on the intake manifold.

also, i was made to understand that you had to take the stock fpr out of the car. i didn't know that you could keep it.
