I just rebuilt my motor and cranked it up last night (sounded so smooth)and drove it home from the shop where I put it together and on the way home it cut off and ran after I let the clutch out when I got to my house I herd a lil tap coming from under the hood not enough really unless you listen really well. Well anyways when I went to crank it in the morning tapin came from the valve cover so I checked the oil it was less than 1/2 half qurt low so I put som in it(10w30)and cranked it back up and waited to see if it stopedafter it warmed up(its in the 50s here) it got a lil lighter and almost gone so I reved it just a tad and It came back am I useing the wrong oil or are my oil lash adjuster clogged from sitting any ideas please

OK I drove it back to the shop and the noise was a lil less so Im guessing its from the fact when I had it blown I had used lucas nasty stuff to keep it going so I guess that clogged the lifters so Im going to pull em out and use brake cleaner on em and put em back in any other suggestions on this?

Hmmm...do you have built internals or stock engine? If you are hearing some ticking noise, either you have bad lifters, or the EGR solenoid might be loose. Sometimes when I drive my car real hard, the intake pipe hits the solenoid and knock if off from the cylinder head (since it's held on by a clip/claimp). I'm not saying that this is the cause, but this has happened to me quite often, and you'll hear the ticking sound more when you're accelerating--if this is the case. Just something else to check. Oh, and that Lucas oil stabilizer stuff is real sticky. My engine won't turn over at the first crank if the temperature is below 30 degrees outside.

No built internals not enough dough. but I m 99% sure its a lifter I made another post about it I highly doubt that an egr sounds like a woodpecker on an empty soup can It sounds more stronger from the intake side (also gets louder as I rev it)I dont have any lucas in it this time I just didnt clean the head from when I pulled it last time. But I did change the 10w30 to 15w40 high detergent and it seems to have gotten louder?any suggestions on how to stop it or check it or am I in for some new lifters

pulled valve cover off and tried checking lifters with stethascope and none really made anymore noise than the other is it possable that timeing belt jumped a tooth and a valve is tapping the piston after all it did stall when I was taking it home and I let out the clutch and it started back up and was making a light noise when I was driving it home and was running smooth as glass when I first cranked it? Ive got a lil over a 100 miles on it now and the noise changes butis really bad when I first crank it and sometimes not so bad after I run it .I m a lil lost here anybody have any ideas
