#38966, "ignition timing control"

i'm interested in finding a good way to retard timing in relation to boost. i've been poking around for different control systems, and so far i've found the MSD DIS-2 and the Crane HI-6DI2. the crane has a lot of accessories, some that i know i'll be needing (like the MAP sensor and the retard module) and some that i'm not sure... like the smaller trigger box, what's that suppose to do? and what's this thing about a "tach adaptor"? i thought that you could just splice the tach wire and feed it to the unit kind of like how the S-AFC does it.

and if i decided to get the MSD DIS-2, what other goodies would i need with it?

what are the differences between the two? basically, i'm looking to be able to retard timing according to boost and to be able to use it as a studderbox. which one would be better for me?

i have the dis 2 programmable myself, i like its options but the only bad thing is it requires a laptop to use all of its features(but i have one)..you'll need a 3 bar map sensor and a dual igntion adapter...415 for a new unit, 75 for the map and another 50-70 for the adapter i think...its a nice unit all around...the good thing about the crane is that you can adjust the retard from the cockpit w/ a dial....nice feature...i'd say they are pretty comparable units all in all

I'm using the Crane ignition with a timing retard control unit that's mounted under the dash. I can change the amount of timing retard simply by turning a knob (which is also very touchy). Like Blunt mentioned, to set up a boost proportional timing retard, you'll need a 2 or 3 bar MAP sensor.

I also hooked up the "studder box" with a momentary switch (NOS purge push button switch) that "turns on" the feature, and when you let go of the button, the spring disconnects, thus, turns off the studder box.
