First off, the saga..
Matt_95tgs and I worked on his car trying to get it back together until 4 in the morning on friday to make the trip out to Chicago. Well at 4 am, we still had about an hour or two left to go. The head didnt get done in time, so it set us way back. So Saturday we decided to take my car. About 5 hrs of driving later, we finnaly get there and meet up with Sandman, and Matt(blackvenge). They had previously built a DP from JasonESI-T's car, and just needed to weld on a bracket and check a few clearance issues, BUT the DP did not fit well on my car, it was hitting mostly the coolant crossover pipe. So they decided to make a new one from scratch. About 8 hours later, we finnaly finished. Now time for the next 5 hr drive home! (We left around 11:30 PM..Yep) More testing still needs to be done with this DP, mostly some dyno information. The plan is to test this out for a bit, and then send it back to ERT for a jig to be made, the the final DP's can begin production. Either Matt_95tgs will dyno his car when its up and running, with the stock DP, then we will take the ERT DP off my car, then transfer it to Matt's car, checking fitment, and then off to the dyno for some solid #'s. Ok with that aside, here are my first observations with the new larger DP..
LOW END TORQUE! Yep, thats right, I could easily feel a decent gain in low end torque. The turbo spools around 300-400 rpms earlier, around 2500 rpms on my car. I can build about 5 or 6 PSI at 2800-2900 rpms now. Never could do that before. Also, when i was in 4th gear, cruising at 40 MPH, at 2000 rpm's, if i would give it some gas, the car would not really move much, sort of bog in a way. Now, with the new DP, i can easily feel the car pull much better at low rpm's. I was really impressed with the increased response of the turbo at low rpms. You can def tell its breathing much better. A few other things i noticed, but NOT sure of it being the DP or slightly warmer temperatures: Slightly lower EGT's at full boost(9 PSI). During a few pulls on the HWY, in 4th gear i glanced at the EGT gauge and it was around 1450 at 6000 rpms. So there may be a drop in EGT's with this DP, but that is uncertain, as the temps did warm up about 10-15 degrees from what its been in the past few weeks (I usually see about 1575 degrees in 15-20 degree temps). The second thing, was gas miliage. On the way back, i got 34.6 MPG. Thats much better than normal for my car, its usually around 28-32 on the HWY. No good info for city driving though. Overall, the DP made a noticable difference, worth every penny ERT wants to charge for this DP. The thing that sticks out in my mind about it, was the gain in low rpm torque. It just made city driving and light boosting much more fun, and streetable. The car pulls harder when under WOT full boost, and still pulls better past 6000 rpms than it used to. Before, the car started to run out of breath at 6000, but now it pulled nicely. I can't wait to put the production piece on the car now!(hehe its gonna suck having to take this off!).thats it for now, we are somewhat tired after 10 hours of driving and 8 hours of standing and thinking, and all that, all in one day..but it was worth it. We even had a few good races on the way there. A ford Lightning, and a Acura Integra GSR. The lightning went down, pulled on him. The Acura teggy was pretty quick, and only pulled him very slighty. All this was at 8-9 psi,3/4 tank of gas, and me and Matt in the car, BEFORE the new downpipe! Ok, i think thats it for now
NOTE: I have a gutted cat, 2.5" resonator, and 3" Resonator back exaust with straigh through Borla muffler. I would strongly suggest to get full potential out of this DP, to have at least a high flow cat, and 2.5" cat back with straight through muffler. Running a stock exaust on this new DP, may or may not give the same results as i noticed. 13.5 @108 MPH-2.2 60ft(stupid FWD!)
