#38423, "Stage 3 fuel setup"
Feb-01-03 02:22 PM by dougie2

In my custom setup, I'm now to the point of fuel setup. I've began reading Corbins notes and examples as well as Armonds project notes. I'm shooting for a solid 15psi setup using a Garrett T3, Vortech S-FMU, 4XXcc Fuel Injectors (most likely modified 450cc DSM -or- HRC 415cc), Starion FMIC, Missing Link, etc. I'm considering a Walbro 255lph or 255lph HP fuel pump. I'm against the idea of using an S-AFC, and I'll be using an MSD DIS-2 in the future. From what I understand, I'll need to use the 2.72 disk and the dark spring. I'm a bit confused on tuning the fuel pressure. I'll also be using a datalogger when tuning.

Basically what I'm asking for is suggestions/advise/experiences/setups so I can educate myself to build a properly working fuel system for stage 3. Please help.

my first recomendation is the 8 injector setup for ya doug,

second would be the greddy e manage route with the profec 01 boost controller(check site for current pricing)

with those two setups you/d be far ahead of any s-afc setup,

with the 8injector setup ud have to run a 1:1 regulator not the SFMU

and with the greddy unit u would need the SFMU i think(not 100% positive)

the next setup from thsoe piggy back setups is the haltech e6k standalone i think u can get these are 600$

autotronic ems, sds,dta,motec,fast,aem etc.....

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.
If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast.

I put together a spreadsheet to help me figure out the rising rate(among other things). It may also help you decide what kind of injectors to get. All of the fields in blue are input. The rest are output or lables. The top section lets you figure out what kind of injectors to get based on power(probably not to useful for you). The bottom section lets you run rising rate scenarios. Check it out - http://www.users.fast.net/~metaljim/garage/TurboCalc.xls

Also, if you're gonna be pushing alot of fuel, you should check out this guy's site. http://www.stevetek.com/R-FuelSys.html . He analyzed the fuel flow capabilities for our cars and found out that it's not all that great. I'm upgrading to AN-6(3/8 inch) fuel lines because of it. He's talking about the turbo model, but we have the same crappy line, the same crappy filter, the same crappy banjo, and pretty much the same rail inlet ID...basically the same crappy flow.

Also I agree with Moto on the dual rails. Thats what I'm doin.

8 injector setup is out of the question. I will be using the e-manage unit later on down the line, but I need to get to get by until then. I think I'll be trying the 450cc injectors with low (15-20) idle fuel pressure and the 2.72 disk and dark spring and see what happens. Is anyone else doing this?

i'm planning on running the 2.72" disc and the hard black spring with the S-FMU and the 415 cc/min hahn injectors. i should be a little rich at around 30 psi of fuel at idle, but i can tune with my AFC. i'm trying to get the 0+ psi fuel curve perfect, so i don't need to lean it down with the AFC. 15-20 psi at idle is pretty low, i'd be careful if you decided to go with that setup. i hear that things can get fubar or something with pressures that low at idle.
