Anyways i recently turned 18 and need to get a loan for 2grand for a hahn stage 1. Im finally gonna go for it. how long do they usually take to ship? is the installation straitforward? Im planning on doing it in the garage(with help of my dad and his friend that knows alot about all this) what ahould i expect to run and what can i beat with my basic mods below and a stage 1 properly tuned at say 5psi. How will i do against say a gsr? i think ill get the smfu soon after that..also i dont know what the missing link is and i hear alot of talk about it. I also wnt the guages to keep check of it all. any advice for a newbie when i get it? how about any turbo guys around central NJ? lol i just cant wait to feel the turbo that everyone talks about and how they say its like a new car. thanks

Hey I'm new to the turbo game as well. Uh, as far as suggestions go, I would buy the missing link if I were you because with a stage 1 if you easy into boost instead of hammering it, you'll get a hiccup that feels like fuel cut. I got a check engine light because of mine and it said it was related to the MAP sensor. The ML will eliminate this. Guage wise I have a boost, EGT, and A/F in my car. Those seem to be the most important.
BTW at 5psi I beat a 2000 GSR with ignition retard, exhaust, completely redone suspension, nitrous, and a P/P TB. I lost when he sprayed but destroyed him when he wasn't bottle feeding it. My mods are below.

Well, I would say to first off; get a bigger loan. There will be glitches and stuff that "could" happen that you should be ready for. I would definately get stage II or intercool it ASAP. I've been boosted for awhile now, and I would def intercool it just so everything is safe. Get the proper gauges and really get to know your engine.

If he's only planning on pushing 5 lbs. is an intercooler that necessary? I mean with my stage 1 I don't notice my engine bay getting hotter (granted it's winter) but still, like Hahn says, at 5 psi an intercooler will help little to none. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It's good insurance. I drove around in two summers and it ran WAY better once I got my SMIC on this past summer than it did in the past. You can run 5 lbs no prob w/o an IC. Spool-up time is a tad faster, but with good planning/craftsmanship and my 1g SMIC it runs better w/ almost the same spool time. My SMIC only cost $50 w/ the cost of piping and the IC. Why not?

hah! i know how you feel on being killed after modding with the basics(i/h/e) package, i was ATX and i got spanked nasty against a MX-6 a year and some months ago, since that day i was sooo pissed i was fed up and decided to go turbo. i wanted to be unique and with little knowledge on turbos. and for so long i've been reading into the hahn and star systems that i finally got hungry. and a year later it feels like there's nothing out there that can beat me. i've had only one lost against a TT Supra but it was an obvious kill. i guess it's a good start with a stage I system, but you can go to junkyards and look for side mount intercoolers from a GST or VR4, and do some custom piping to get a little more boost.
