#37408, "Team Rip EGT probe"

Ok, I put my Team Rip probe in tonight. This thing responds so much faster than the probe that came with my Autometer ATM-5744 package. There is one problem though. I seems to generally run hotter. Sitting at idle it use to run at ~900F now it is ~1000F. That is 100F difference. Then I took it out for a few runs. I hit 1700F! What! That is way to hot. Is this thing just reading high or what? I tested the two probes and the new Team Rip probe has less resistance than my old one. Would this be causing the high reading?

Are you using the same wire that came with the autometer kit? If so that could be the problem. With the autometer probe it takes a specific length of wire for it to read properly. Your new probe may require a cetain length wire, or maybe a special type of wire.

That probe is suppose to work fine with the pyrometer(5744)setup. I know that it will not work the the EGT setup. The one that has the probe connected to a yellow box, which the gauge also connects to.

Call TRE and see what is up.

If you have a datalogger, you could check your spark advance. If you are actually going from 1600-1700F, then your spark advance will drop drastically during that time.

The resistance should also be the same with the two probes. Heat on the probe changes the resistance to change the reading on the gauge(pyrometer). If the initial resistance is different, then it is not accurate.

Idle egt temp is roughly 900F after starting the car and idling for 5 minutes or so(warmed up).

When I data logged last weekend I was getting 17deg of advance at 15psi Open loop. And 17deg of advance at 6psi close loop. My fuel looks nice and rich and the car pulls like a monster.

I called Team Rip and here is what he said. The more timing gets pulled the higher your EGT's. As the timing gets pulled the exhaust valves open sooner and let out more hot mixture. Seeing that I am only getting 17degrees of advance my car may be knocking and pulling timing. How to solve this? Richen it up even more. I should get less retard and lower EGT's.
