Okay, I've been looking for turbo parts. I've noticed that almost all turbo exhaust housings come with internal wastegates built in, like the stock Eclipse turbos. If you were to go with an external one how would you knock out the internal wastegate? Just weld it shut or something?

Also, is this T3/T4 set up for external? It looks like it doesn't have the second opening like the stock Eclipse turbos do. Sorry for the newbie questions...but I need to learn.

Yeah, with that turbo you'll either have to put the wastegate on the manifold or on an adapter between the manifold and turbine inlet flange.

It would be easier to see how to handle it if you actually had an internal wastegate sitting in front of you. It's just a flapper door. With an internally gated turbo - If you want to put the wastegate on the manifold then you have to weld the flapper shut. Also with the internally gated ones - if you wanted to put the wastegate on the turbine outlet side then you would just let the flapper flap, or remove the flapper valve alltogether.

They also make turbine downpipe flanges that will block off the internal wastegate. You just remove the actuator and use one of these.

This one happens to be for a T3 turbine I believe.
