i need to know about the fuel pump assembly. when i was looking at the instruction, the pump totally connects to the pump bracket, BUT now that i have it all taken apart, i dont see how it is possible for me to connect it to the bracket. do i just leave it free balling in the gas tank or what?
ALSO
there are two on the top of the pump and im not sure what i should do with them. can i plug them up with something or leave them open.

Drive careful

Don't feel bad, this gives everyone trouble. Hose clamp it to the bracket. I used two hose clamps just to be sure. The Walbro is a little too long to fit the bottom part of the stock bracket over it.

Don't plug up those whatever you were talking about that you forgot to include a noun for. Whatever these undescribables are, (holes?) leave them alone.

damn, i must have been f**ked up when i wrote that. but thanx for replying so fast. now that i have this done, all i have to do is my oil pan and then im boosting =DDD. i forgot to undo the bracket assembly and that plastic clip just broke off; i think i can tape it up till i can replace it.

ok, i guess i'm having the same trouble as everyone else with my walbro. the pump is obviously too long to go back like the old one came out. i can use hose-clamps to secure it to the bracket that's not a problem.

...but what about that rubber cushion that used to be between the bottom "L" piece and the filter screen. if that "L" piece isn't going to be there, will the filter screen be ok just with that little silver washer thing holding it on or do you secure it on with something else?

i'd hate for that screen to fall off and have all kinds of debris get into the pump.

This is all a little foggy to me, but I think you just use the little silver washer to keep the screen in place. It's pretty snug and it shouldn't go anywhere.

As for the bottom bracket guys, bend it out a bit along with the main vertical piece that runs parallel with the fuel pump so you can mount the fuel pump well. It WILL fit. I also re-used the rubber cushion as I remember. Another thing, DON'T use any O-ring. Use a small amount (2" or so) of high pressure F.I. hose with two hose clamps to connect the fuel pump with the fuel pump assembly. It's what the OEM used after 95-96.

Lastly, many of you hear about the Walbro differing in effectiveness and noise level. As far as my research has revealed, it all comes down to the install. The more snug and tightly you can get the pump to fit with the stock assembly, the quieter it will be. Remember, this is a more bulkier metal-geared Walbro. It's a great pump, but it doesn't fit necessarily "perfect." The more time you can devote to getting it installed right, the better it will sound and perform for you later.

I installed mine very carefully and had even redone it after the first time to make absolutely sure it was in there nicely. Now, I never hear that pump. It's absolutely quiet. (I can only hear the HRC inline once in awhile...after a hard run) My Walbro fits in the stock bracket just as my stock one did and it does not move, shift or wiggle at all within its bracket.

something occured to me last night after i wrote my last question... has anybody ever thought of drilling another hole in the bottom "L" piece so that it can hang down slightly farther? there's room enough to drill a hole up higher on that piece which would allow the pump to fit fine. i already drilled the hole. all i have to do is get a new piece of hose to clamp on and i'll be all set.

also, has anyone thought about clamping a piece of rubber sheet around the outside of the pump? this would probably quiet it down alot. do the pumps run so hot that this would make a difference in cooling? i would imagine they can't run that hot or it would be dangerous for them to even be in the tank, right?

i can get some 1/8" neoprene sheet that's gas & oil resistant and use a couple of hose clamps around the pump body. i think it's worth a try.
