I just bought my rods a couple month ago and I just threw a rod through the block with only 4psi of boost wtf? I have the I beam version has anyone encountered this problem before? Because I though eagles were suppose to be the best for our cars, I guess not.

Was your car acting funny when this happened? Was your car pretty well tuned?? Because the Eagle rods claim to be good to 500hp, and there's no way you were anywhere near that hp with only 4psi. It doesn't matter how strong your rods are, if you're getting detonation you can still break one.

yeah, something isnt right there...it wasnt the rod that was at fault. Could have been improper rod bearing cap bolt torqure, or a bearing issue. Although, getting a "bad" part happens now and then...maybe a forging problem or something...hard to tell really

Sounds like something a little more than the rod.?

I have had 20+ on my Eagles and they haven’t gone through the block yet (knock on wood). Did you tare down the engine and inspect everything else. Take some pictures of everything once you get it all apart.

That sucks man hope you can get it all worked out and back together.

Eagle makes an I-beam for 420a's?? Can someone post a pic. Generally, the I beams for the V8's (the stuff I am used to) are garbage, and no better then stock. Their H-beams are ok.

Thanks,
Toma

If you threw a rod threw your block, then it wasn't the rod that failed. Think about it chief

It could have been the rod if it broke. But they are right. Something drastic would have had to happen to make a forged rod break. How about some pics.

Just did some digging..... the I beams are egles SIR rods (junk). They are made from 5140 forged which is not as strong as your stock powdered forged rods material wise.

The CHEAP SIR I-beam is meant as a stock replacement rod, and only about that strong. They are only good to about 60hp per rod.

I agree that there was something probably wrong, but don't expect miracles out of the stock replacement crap.

If you are gonna do it, buy a quality H-beam.

Eagles for the 420A are H-beam. I don't think anyone even sells the I-beams.

Even stock rods can take about 15-17psi before the bend/break/fly apart.

Your problem likely wasnt the rods, it was more likely an oiling problem, a bearing problem, loose rod cap bolt, or an improperly installed wrist pin. Go after your assemler, or start kicking yourself if you did it.

I agree with the others, it's most likely not the rod itself. I've gone 25psi with these rods, with no problems, the only thing I worry about is burning a hole through a piston. Having said this, I'm sure my next engine failure will be do to a massive rod failure. I've seen a stock rod failure on a 420A and the Bedplate was totally destroyed where the rod hit it, unfortunately you found this out out first hand. Good luck on the repairs.

I put a stock rod right through the block with no turbo, it was an spun bearing problem due to low oil pressure.
