bought the bov today off some kid with a crashed integra. got it for 130 in box brand new. stopped off at a muffler shop had them hack off the stock 1g bov flange and weld the new one to the pipe. installed the bov and adjusted the screw all the way back out, went for a spin, and DAMN!!! this shit is loud. the sound is very very hard to describe. when i boost it hard and let off i get this really high pitched whistling sound and then almost at the same time it trails off with this triple swooshing sound. if i tease the boost and play around with it i just get the swooshing sound (sounds almost like compressure surge, but if you put your hand by it and rev the moter you can feel it venting the air) damn thing sounds sweet.
after i got bored with tearing up and down the parking and scaring the crap out of who ever was in the bays working, i stopped off at my buddy mike's house (he has a wrx with bolt-ons, but most notably he also has the turboxs RFL. another notoriously loud bov). according to him, with his music and windows up, he still heard my bov going off with no problems. in the end i am very happy, and i think that if someone is looking for a bov that will get them noticed go with the HK$.i feel that it is a better sounding valve than the RFL and the GReedy type-s. pedestrian scare factor is through the roof. also that blow off valve scared off a potential race tonight. I LOVE IT.
also, how would i go about recording the sound while driving? any ideas???

Cool. . I bought the HKS a few months ago but haven't installed it yet. I think when I do I will try a different approach to the welding, I'll let you know. So for us guys boosting 8-10psi the recommend setting is turning the bolt all the way to almost closing? I wondered about that cause of the japanese instructions... if you ever get a pic please post it. Good work scaring people with it.
weasle745: and then to top it off, im not even an attractive guy. I look like Millhouse from the Simpsons, cant put on weight if my life depended on it, etc

i haven't had a chance to play around with the screw yet, but i screwwd mine almost all the way out not in. the screw is barely making any contact. in theory in could take the screw totally out of the bov and it still wouldn't leak due to it pull type design. also the flange has to be welded to the pipe. there is no way to get around that. the bov uses this little c-ring thingy that keeps it seated in the flange.

I have a HKS SS as well. The surge you are hearing is exactly that. Compressor surge. You have a small 14b turbo. I have a small T3 turbo and I get the exact same thing. Leave the screw all the way out. It will not help to screw it in. I talked with a guy at HKS and he said that action is distink to the SS. It is designed so that it can not leak under boost. This design is very efective and is optimal for higher boost (15-18psi) applications.
