#35883, "Gaskets..."

Ive gotthe HRC kit....and I justnoticed that my turbo to downpipeis leaking. You can see black..'gunk'..onone section of it and it looks as if it's actually dripped/sprayed down onto the downpipe piping going below...maybe from being too rich? I can hold my hand near the spot while it idles and feel lots of air coming out. Anyhow, where do I go for a new gasket for the HRC downpipe? Also, right where the valve cover meets the head- there is a tiny bit of oil along the crack, normal?

Ok let's recap my questions:

What's the blackness gunk?(Richness?)
Is it okay to drive? (Hot air won't hurt anything?)
Where do I get a new gasket for this spot?(Generic at Napa?)
Valve cover gasket necessary? (Or is it normal for a tad bit of oil right along the seam?)

I probably answered most myslef...Im just paranoid..

Yep, its the unburnt fuel deposites (carbon). Perfectly normal there.
>Is it okay to drive? (Hot air won't hurt anything?)

It should be just fine, as long as nothing in right next to it that can burn/melt.

>Where do I get a new gasket for this spot?(Generic at Napa?)

There is no gasket. The Hahn DP just goes over the stock, cut off DP. I also had a good size leak, as do many others with this kit. I noticed that the stock DP wasnt fully round, and the exaust clamp that came in the kit was just a tad bit too big. When it was tightened, it "crimped" both DP's, and created a gap. So i took it off, tried to round out both pipes as good as i could, then somehow managed to fanagle a 2" exaust clamp on the Hahn DP. It was an extremely tight fit, but it worked. This way, the clamp tightened the DP's toghegher nice and evenly, and now i have almost a leak free connection. Another option would be to weld on some flanges on each piece of DP. Lining them up would be a bit trickey though.

Its not supposed to leak oil at all. Prob need to get a new gasket and put it on there. Very simple to do. Some use a gasket sealer when they do this, but the valvecover gasket is designed to be selant free. Its actually a pretty good quality gasket (OEM one at the dealer). I used no sealer at all, and i got NO leaks. Being sure the gasket is on straight, and the cover isnt over tightened, will ensure no leaks.

yep - what he said ^^

Also, just a bit more about the valve cover gasket. It should not be leaking. Get a new gasket on there. There is a specific procedure (in the FSM) to install it so that it won't give you any problems.

No, not there. Where the downpipe actually meets with the exhaust side of the turbo. There is a triangular gasket...where do I get that one?

Ahh ok. Well you can get a new one at HRC, or try Napa or similar auto parts store, and get an exaust gasket. I believe the one we use is a standard 3 hole exaust collector gasket....I'd say take in the old one, and match it up. I know i've heard peeps on here getting these gaskets at auto stores..
