well guys we just got done w/ my install, i have a full built engine thats pretty heavily ported, ss valves, 50 trim stage II star kit w/ corbins 8 inj setup...the car started up and sounds great....i have the rfl bov so after we added some washers it actually started to hold boost and its all good now...i'm boosting about 5-7 psi for the break in time, i can't wait to turn it up...theres only one problem..my egts on long 3rd or 4th gear pulls get to about 1500 pretty quickly...we have a few things we think can be causing this..one is that its about 12 degrees here and w/ my front mount that means i'm getting pretty much zero or close to that of knock at 5 psi(my a/f says im' pretty rich) so b/c there is no or minimal knock my timing isn't getting pulled so i'm getting high egt's...thats one...another is that the plug that goes on the knock sensor had the clip broken that holds the thing around the little tooth thats on the sensor itself, so we could get it on but it wouldn't stay...solution was zip ties, i'm in the process of getting a new plug...could this be a problem, we aren't throwing a code so i'm not sure if it would affect how it reads or not....would too much fuel hurt, could my rich condition be causing this a little( i thought it would do the opposite)...i have the fuel pressure at idle to be around 38-40 ish, i get around 15 vacuum on my boost guage at start up and it settles to about 18 after its good and warm...i think that i may be getting just crazy timing advance or something, i need to get my buddys datalogger to see where its at..good thing is i bought a dis2 w/ a 3 bar map so i will be able to mess w/ this once i'm broken in to turn up the boost ...any ideas men...man is it good to be done w/ this and boosting...

Well I know that my egt's rise quickly in boost, it may not be abnormal for them to rise at the rate yours do. They are supposed to go up fast, just worry about where it levles off. 1500 aint bad anyway 1600 is what your worried about. If they stop at 1500 then no worries. It does not sound to me like you are having a problem. Don't worry about the timing I think your doing fine our cars do really well on timing until 14-15 psi thats when we need to start pulling it out. If you had an afc you would watch it closer because the afc messes with your timing. If you get no knock then that's the right place to be. I havn't heard of many people boosting during the break in so you may want to be careful there. In the cold winter with the intercooler what you get little of is pressure drop not knock. If your engine is knocking it means you need to fix something if your not getting knock it's a good thing. Like I said it don't really matter how fast the egt's go up what matters is how high they go. If you watch the egt guage you'll notice that when you go into boost it starts to rise really fast then stops and starts going up slowly from there. I think your running fine I just wouldn't boost during break in if it was me.

finally...thanks...well mine are hitting 1600..it happened last night and it won't happen again..i'm getting a datalogger this weekend so that i can figure out where my timing is..i'm pretty sure its a timing issue..i don't understand what else it could be...i think that too much fuel a long w/ poor timing would cause really high egts...i'm gonig to do some data logging and see where my knock count is and where my timing is going...some of the local car gods said that boosting this little wouldn't hurt for break in, that it should actually help w/ seating the rings...i'm not getting on it b/c of my egts and i haven't gone above 5000 rpms at all...i've got a dis 2 programmable that i was going to hook up after my break in but i may have to do it a little sooner depending on what it says...i know the rich issue isn't a problem b/c i have the 8 inj setup, i'm stock fuel until my point i set to engage the secondarys(310 cc ford ms 30's)..my a/f does go right to the richest peg under boost...i have the missing link, wonder if its not doing its job and the ecu is seeing 5 lbs of boost and advancing the hell out of timing...huh?? any suggestions...thanks again....

Well if I remember correctly (I could be wrong, I have a 95) if it was the missing link and the car sees boost then it cuts fuel. You would know it if you were getting fuel cut. You should not be knocking at that boost level and the stock timing should be just fine at that level of boost. Unless one of your sensors is whacky it shouldn't go crazy with the spark advance. humm..... wonder if that knock sensor could be screwing with your timing? What are you using to measure A/F ratio? Only reason I ask is because with the head work you will need a little more fuel, and I wonder if you are running just a hair lean? Also your only going partial boost for the most part by stopping at 5000 rpms. Pertial throttle boost will usually leave you a little lean with the regular star setup, don't know if it's a problem with the 8 injector setup but you may want to drop corbin an e-mail about your issues, I bet he could help you with it.
