#35515, "Possible boost gauge problem"

Alright guys...in a previous post I have learned that when I was N/A my car should have read 0 when you hammer it. Right? Mine only went to -10hg. I checked for leaks. NONE.
Now that I'm boosting I have my wastegate acutaor set at 4lbs. When I Say this I mean my boost gauge goes up to +4 before it stops. Does this mean that my gauge is lieing to me?

If I hammer it now. It goes to -10 right away.(just like when I was N/A). Then Builds from -10 to +4 on the gauge pretty quickly. Does not go over +4 but could this mean I am boostin way more than 4lbs?

Could I have a bad gauge? I have it tapped on its own spot on the intake pletntum. On the 3 prong T of course.

Here is my car at idle all warmed up and such .....some times it is at about -18/19.

if you are at WOT and are NA your gauge should read 0 psi. if not and there are no air leaks then you have a bad gauge.
Re-read your post.... you have your westgate set at 4psi? if it is an open air westgate, then when you hear it open you will know you have reached whatever ammount of boost it is set up at.

My wastegate is internal...so I can't hear it when it opens. Im am betting I have a bad boost gauge. Im gonna get vacume tester and check it, to what my gauge says...I bet it tells me different.

What exhaust do you have? Stock GST exhaust wont let you push more than about 5psi with an smic, 4psi with fmic.

Stock GST's hold a hell of a lot more than 5psi stock. I doubt the exhaust will cause any problems at such a low boost. Sounds like gauge but what does it read when you turn car off? Should be 0.

Ok here is the verdict..
boost gauge is way off...that is probly why my car blew engine #2. (I am still blaming engine #1 on 100k of hard driving emoji).
Anyway I bought the vacum tester and it shows me @ -15 idle rock solid where my boost gauge shows me @ -20. hmmm 5lb difference..makes me suspicious.
I also found that the vacum tester goes to 0 when i shut the car off...my boost gauge only goes to -10.

About the exhaust....I have custom 2.75 inch with a 2.75 inch resonator that is 24 in long, and a gutted cat with a tenzo venturi end. I had this all made for me YEARS ago by tenzo racing sports.

Well, obviously since the GS-T runs like 12psi. However, even with my boost controller all the way open, I couldn't get over 5psi. When I put on a test pipe I could hit 9psi+. Maybe I had a clogged cat or something? But HRC's website does say "Aftermarket Exhaust STRONGLY recommended for stage 2" in several places.

HRC's site also says the stock injectors for our car are rated at 175cc's I think. Something close to that when we know they are rated at 235cc. Aftermarket exhaust will help, YES, but prevent you from going over 5psi. NO.

So there's a good chance that you were boosting 14 psi. Yup, that's a motor popper when you think that you are running 4... emoji
