first the requirements.
less than 10 psi will be run...i don't race so i won't go boost crazy like some of you lol

my car is a sleeper so i don't want the bov to be too loud...

i'm wondering if i need to replace the 3000gt bov that comes with the hrc kit. should i keep it.

i know some of you here don't like it cause it leaks, but will leaks cause a safety problem (engine blows)...or is it just a performance hindrance?

New Car:

nothing like driving with the windows down and the music low: i love hearing the turbo spool, swwwhhhttt!!!!

im no turbo guru, but most people will say get greddy type s bov. its not too loud, and it will sufficently hold a moderate amount of boost. a leaky bov wont cause ur engine to blow, but it wont let you reach constant full boost. leaky bov = no good. also if your stage 1 please do not run anywhere around 10 psi.

get a crushed 1g bov. not loud and it will more than get the job done while being inexpensive

you might as well keep the vr-4 bov. vr-4's bov's usu. don't leak on them until after 14 psi or so.......and that is on the vr-4. why they tend to leak on 2gnt's I am not sure. if the bov will work on a 320hp car, it should work fine on yours.

If you want to keep the car a sleeper and you're not going to run very high boost, then the 3000GT bov should be good enough. It does leak, but that's around 14-15 psi boost. If you want to replace the 3000GT bov, then I'd recommend the crushed 1G BOV.

The 3000GT is fine for your boost levels, and it is pretty quiet too.
The Greddy is actually really loud.

A leaky BOV will not prevent you from reaching full boost, especially when it is a 16g only running 10psi. It will, however, cause the turbo to work harder to push the same amount of air. This heats up the air more which aids in heatsoaking the intercooler and raising temperatures in the combustion chamber.

so it wouldnt cause boost fade in higher rpm, causing you to not reach constant full boost?

I would go with the greddy type s or the hks ssqv. The hks isn't THAT loud. from what I've heard (I'm turbo deprived around here and don't see turbo cars often) the 1st gen and type s are very similar. The thing is- type s will probably look better. Type s should handle more boost too. Personally, I like the turbo xs rfl, but also like the whistling sound of the type s. rfl is just loud as hell=sweet!
