it is because of the power brakes... The computer keeps the idle at that higher level so that there is enough engine vacuum to assist with the power brakes booster ....

Happens to me too. I heard it's because we have vaccuum assisted brakes.

I say you just use the e-brake every time you want to stop.

yeah its basically normal for the brake reason. before i always thought it was just because the car was moving and it was taking in a little more air idling at speed, lol

intake, 2.5 exhaust w/gst muffler, pacesetter header, msd wires, ngk plugs, port and polish throttlebody, front and rear strut bars, 1.5' tenzo springs, 17" primax rims, kuhmo tires, leather interior, gsx sideskirts, BM shortshifter, GM fluid in trans...

Do you mean the RPM stays at 2000 RPM after you up shift or down shift? I'm not sure that your brakes have anything to do with that, but I personally think the throttle body plate might be sticking. Just another thing to look check.

Mine stay at 1100 not 2000 when I've got the clutch and brake depressed. Once I reach a full stop it settles at 800.

welcome to the world of car problems... emoji mine does it too, settles down once i am idling for a few seconds, if it doesnt settle down, you may have a decent sized vac leak, the pcv valve hose might have blown off or something like that... or the IAC maby? i dunno.. last time i got my engine running, mine would stick pretty high, like 2500 or so, i unpluged the harness to the IAC and it fell down to normal... havent messed w/ it much yet though..
