1. The downpipe I got with the kit has a flange on one side but no flange on the other, is it supposed to be this way? How does it connect?

2. Do I need some sort of air fuel guage? If so how much will that run me?

Did you buy the kit new? If so, you should have an instruction manual with it. It will tell you to cut a couple of inches off your stock downpipe, slide the downpipe from HRC over the stock one, and use a C-clamp to hold them together.

For an air/fuel gauge, you can get the blinkly light ones from vendors like VDO or Autometer, or buy a digital one. Digital is better, but slightly more expensive. Jumptronix is one brand of digital....www.jumpronix.com.

Just a side note for you,

Make sure that you use two exhaust clamps on the connection of the turbo downpipe to original cut exhaust pipe. The kit only comes with one so you will have to purchase another one. They are only $1 or so.

I recommend doing this because you definitely will have an exhaust leak with just one clamp. The exhaust clamps tend to clamp harder on the front and back side of the clamp rather than all around. Mount one clamp in any direction and then another clamp right above or below a 1/4 turn differnt - this will allow equal clamping pressure on four sides of the pipe. Make sure to tighten down as tight as possible to compress the HRC downpipe onto the original cut downpipe. I have done this and I do not have an exhaust leak (or it is so small I do not hear it).

At the time, I thought of having the two pipes welded together. I even got a price quote from a local muffler shop. My plan was to clamp it together with one clamp so that the pipes stayed aligned when I removed the whole pipe (HRC and original downpipe). It just wasn't going to happen. There is not enough room with the air conditioning piping sitting to the left (plus the downpipe bolts on the flange that mounts to the turbo are a pain in the ass to get off). If the weld was slightly off, I would have a hard time getting the pipe to align to the mounting bracket or the turbo exhaust flange. That is how I came up with the two clamp idea.

Hope this helps,
Kurt

Yeah, i'd definitely get them welded, you're going to end up leaking eventually no matter, in fact, i couldn't even get mine to stay clamped, so i used a bolt to hold the pipe to some bracket off the motor and it stayed inside the pipe, i HAD to have a shop make my exhaust for me as soon as I got the kit put together.
