Hey guys,

just made my own dual stage boost controller. used a mbc, a boost control solenoid (i got one from a 300zx cuz it was free, but any will work), and a 99 cent switch.

i can now switch b/t the wastegate setting and mbc setting from the cockpit on the fly emoji

more info and diagram are at my asog post @

Nice man, maybe you should start selling your own "homemade" kits for people interested? Once again emoji

no pics, i dont have a digi emoji . ill try and borrow a friends digi this weekend, but if not, youll have to wait till thanksgiving weekend when i can use my parents digi.

but the 300zx solenoid is just a little metal solenoid w/ two vacuum nipples on the end. Im going see how much i can get them for new, i got mine free, but it was used.

Maybe if i can piece together the parts cheap enough i could sell them as kits, but if it costs to much to get the parts, it wouldnt be worth it since it can be done so cheap otherwise.

Bump

I am very interested in your results. Keep us posted. I am already searching for a used 300ZX TT BCS.

I can get many used 4G63 BCS, but know that the Z boost control solenoid was designed for this application.

Good info!

Hey,

I posted results under that link to the asog post in the first post of this thread.

It works great, can switch boost settings on the fly (for you guys w/ 1st gear traction problems, big plus), and the boost setting changes less than a second after i hit the switch

i was even messing around and on the same run just went back and forth several times, lol, bosot level always went to where its supposed to

You could easyily add more solenoids and mbc's to add more options (3 Way, 4 Way, etc..) If you use junkyard solenoids and $5 grainger valves, it wouldnt be to pricey to have several boost settings

The DSM BCS should work too, it basically does what im doing...when the ecu sees 12-14psi, it opens the solenoid and all that pressure rushes thru and causes the wastegate to open.
Im just using that principle in reverse: when my solenoid is open, air goes str8 thru and the wastegate setting limits boost. when i hit the switch, the solenoid closes, and the vacuum signal then has to travel thru the mbc which limits the boost.

And if your scavenging junkyards, the 80's chrysler turbo cars all had these solenoids too.

If I use a switch to send power to the solenoid, does it close or open the valve?

Basically I want to know if the BCS energizes open/deenergizes closed or deenergizes open/energizes closed.

I have a two position (on/off) switch with a red guard. When I raise the guard/flip up the switch(ON), the switch closes contact and sents power through. When I slap the guard down, it makes the switch of OFF and breaks contact. The guard can only be set one way with the current switch(aircraft).

I would like the BCS to energize open(ON) to send uncontrolled air to the wastegate(low boost) and deenergize(off) closed to send air through my MBC.

Is this how yours is setup?

Does the DSM boost control solenoid do this? It would be easy to slap the guard down between shifts to get my high boost setting.

I made a dual stage boost controller using a solenoid from a 1g Talon, the FPR solenoid I think it was. It's just a powered solenoid that has 1 in and 2 outs, 1 out is open when there is no power going to the solenoid, and 1 out that's open when there is power.

I got the solenoid for free from a friend, and the wiring and switch was only a few bucks. I can also switch from low to high boost WHILE BOOSTING using this setup.

When the switch is sending power to the solenoid, you will be on the low boost setting.

when you cut power from the solenoid, it closes, and your on the high boost setting.

from everything ive seen, the nissan, chrylser and dsm solenoids work the same way.
