LAST EDITED ON 05-Apr-01 AT 11:57 AM (PST) Well,
I have a few comments. The FPR came from HRC.
First, as to the base fuel pressure being unstable. That may be a possibility for some. I've heard grneclipse and Corbin both complain about similar symptoms. So I wouldn't rule that out. I've heard from HRC though that it's simply a case of the spring(I think) in the FPR warming up. I don't know.
Either way, I haven't noticed a huge amount of fluctuation for the base fuel pressure, but I have noticed some. Again, not a lot. So I would agree with Corky on that one. It definitely might be a small imperfection. The type of fluctuation I have heard about is anywhere from 60 to 50psi from cold start to warm. I haven't experienced this amount of flux though. (I keep iut lower closer to 45 psi b/c of my two big fuel pumps and it pretty much stays there...car also seems happier the lower I keep it)
However, as to the boosted fuel pressure, it's rock solid. HRC has you adjusting anywhere from 80-110 boosted fuel pressure with a second inline fuel pump. I think you can go fairly low, but I don't know how much lower under 80 lbs of fuel pressure. You could probably set it fairly low with one fuel pump, however, I can't give you a definite answer. I'm sure this amount would fvary depending on what you's pushing. At base you can definitely go as low as you want. Murix has it about 32 psi at idle with his 400cc injectors. There's a lot of intangibles that effect your ability to adjust fuel pressure (Fuel pumps, injectors, fuel rail...etc)
I don't want to set you wrong, though. If there's something nicer out there for a reasonable price, I would definitely go for it. The Bell model is nice, and seems sturdy as a rock though. You can tell it was constructed nicely. I could probably drop it on the pavement all day and it would be just fine. However, I would ask around at other adjustable FPRs and see if there's a common fluctuaion problem in base fuel pressure amongst other brands. I bet it might b/c of weather and such. Who knows?
I doubt it's much to worry about though.
