#34080, "How to determine if it's the HG or rings?"

So I was gonna race my frens 99 prelude - we go at it and i push the throttle about 2/3 (it's a chilly 50 degrees) and the needle spikes to 10psi and my car starts stuttering and puffs of white smoke come out the exhaust. So I'm thinking "god dammitI gotta lower the boost and put the WG line back to the compressor" So I get home and check for any wierd idle, smoke out the dipstick, etc. Nothing. I'm gonna do a compression test this weekend but how do determine if my HG is blown or my rings are blown? thanks

Take off the fill cap on the water neck, and the oil cap. If you feel air pulsing out from the fill cap during the compression test, it's probably the HG. if you feel it from the oil cap, it's probably a ring land.

Your car needs to lay off the cigarettes.

it probably wasn't brown. Do a compression test, and see if you get blowby out of the oil cap, or blowby out of the radiator cap.
