#3328, "A'PEXi / HRC FMIC???? Question/Discussion"

LAST EDITED ON 01-Apr-01 AT 10:38 PM (PST)

Well... this question has been annoying me for a while...

As some of you may (or may not) know the HRC FMIC kit uses the very well recognized A'PEXi front mount intercooler. Now this intercooler is one of the best in the world, but, on the HRC kit it mounts on "front-side-in". i.e. what should be facing the front of the car, instead faces thge engine...

So is the A'PEXi FMIC still as efficient when placed in the wrong way round? The FMIC has more aluminum fins on the front than it has on the back....

So any takes?

the intercooler fins are the same on the front as they are in the rear. it will have the same efficiency facing either way.

Bring it on............

I took out my apex-i FMIC out of it's box today (It came with the stage 5 kit.....I am using a different I/C) the only difference between teh designated front and back is that the cooling fins (the little thin ones) go out farther on the designated rear of the cooler. they are all straight, so the only thing that MAY happen is you would loolse a little of the "funneling" aspect of the cooler (you know how it hsa that special design to flow air through it better to help out the radiator). with the way the cooler looks 'though, you may loose 2% effiency if that from turning it around backwards. ti would b another story if the mesh was dammaged, but as it sits out of the box, the flow shouldvery well be the same. the back side still has the "funneling" affect with it's broad fins, so you aren't really loosing any air. there are the same ammount of fins on both sides (there are about 5 air channels on each side). It is a really good I/C. well designed. Don't worry about mounting it backwards 'though. It will still flow correctly, and if it doesn't, the ammount of change over a GS-T will be microscopic (pending if the I/C is new and in good shape)

Bring it on............

A new development on the FMIC with the HRC Stage II through V turbosystems:

We will no longer be using the Apexi intercoolers. While they were certainly quite adequate, and one of the best on the market for Talon and Eclipse, we have decided to turn it up a notch.

The new HRC FMIC was designed in house, and will also be manufactured in our facility. Its dimensions: 24" wide, 11" tall, and 3.5" deep. It also features several new and trick design aspects, in addition to excellent performance characterisitics. All will be revealed soon on our website. It will be available for both 420A and 4G63 DSM's.
