I finally figured it out. As some of you may know, I had just finished with at small rebuild, and on her second maiden voyage, it just died! I at first thought the head gasket was the culprit, that theory flopped. Then I thought that perhaps I had bent a valve or set of valves. That theory was also incorrect. So tonight I was just going to pull the head off and have a machine shop look at it when I found that my intake cam retaining rod had been sheared off of the cam! Holy shit batman! That is right! The little rod had become sheared off. Why?? This I do not know. All of my valves move freely! On both the intake and exhaust side. My cam bolt was tourqed on to spec, and put on strait.....Why it sheared off I will probly never know. Mabey I dropped the cam and it hit that rod??? I don't rember doing that but, I didn't watch my parts 24-7. I first became suspicous of the timing belt when last night when I retimed it and all seemed well. But today when I went to take it off, I noticed that the mark was off my a tooth or so.... So I removed that cam and found that it had sheared off the little rod! Who would have ever thought?

I'm glad you found the problem I would still be cautious to having bent valves, because if the cam gear sheard off of timing, its just like having a timing belt break. Piston-to-valve contact may have happened, maybe not. You wont know until you replace your camshaft, and retime it. After its re-timed, def check your comression..

Damn. Thats crazy.
It just reminded my of my broken cam story. Once, long ago, I ordered a Competetion Cams cam for my 350. When the UPS guy delivered them, I was so siked I just opened them up right there on the spot. It was broken in half. I was like...um, this is supposed to be one piece not 2.
Anyway - broken cams suck. I'd get the Crane or Crower drag grind...but that's just me.

I had that happen to my exhaust cam this summer. There was enough pin left in the gear to drill out the cam and reinstall it. I haven't had a problem since.

Damn dood! make sure your cam is torqued down to the right spec... other than dropping it on the pin, only thing I can think of that would put that kind of stress on the gear would be a bind-up of the camshaft.
