#32731, "Another custom turbo kit"

I have spent the last couple of weeks searching the posts and I still have a couple questions. I am starting out stock except some exaust work, plugs, and wires. I bought everything associated with the turbo off a 90' awd turbo talon for $100 (and it looks like the turbo was just rebuilt!). A friend of mine built me a exaust manifold for $10!!! he charged me for the wire he used welding it together and thats it. anyway, My boss has a mandrel bender and he said he would make the intercooler piping if I bought the pipe. I'm going to buy the fuel pump from autozone I saw in a older post #E8305(my friend gets a discount). I need to buy an FMU and gauges. I have a 95' so do i need the missing link? I thought I read that I didn't need it for a 95'. I was wondering what FMU calibration I should use(i'm guessing 10:1). also I want to run 5-6 psi, what do i need to do to keep the bost down? the talon's stock wastegate will make it run more won't it? I'm wanting boost and egt gauges, would you suggest others?. can you think of anything i'm missing? .... BTW, I helped a friend turbocharge his civic with a custom kit...so i'm not as new as i sound. its just that info for the civic was a little easier to find. Thanks for your time,

Barry

I'm workin on a custom turbo kit cause I'm broke and I want to go fast, and I have a spare motor!

Props to you for doing some research and sourcing your own parts. Looks through the HRC manual online (I think Optimuspeterson has them on his site). Flip through that some and see what you need to mimick that system. I definitely suggest you buy NGK BKR7E-11 plugs gapped at 0.035", start filling up with 93 octane, and get a mechanical fuel pressure gauge. If you just run 5-6 psi, stock injectors and a supplemental fuel pump will work fine. You shouldn't need the missing link (but it doesn't hurt). Try to come up with a heatsheild for the turbo when you install it (it will dump alot of heat into the cooling system). I think you can add an external spring or something to make the wastegate open at a lower pressure. You will want to be careful while boosting for the first few times. Try that 10:1 disk and Autozone pump first off. Watch that fuel pressure gauge to make sure you are getting good pressure (watch for similar pressure as the HRC kit). Definitely get an EGT to stay safe while tuning.

hmm there a place that sells the missing link?

or an info page about it?

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.

8 injector stuff is here: http://www.2gnt.com/www/corbin/8inj.html
But, thats a WHOLE project in itself.

And I echo Michael's suggestion of being careful when you have little money. The last thing you want is to blow your engine and have to sell the turbo kit to pay for a stock engine rebuild. It has happened before (luckily not to me)

hey man if the exhaust manifold works for what you are doing do you think your friend could make me one. I would be willing to pay more than $10. Like you I'm in the process of building a custom turbo and the manifold is the only thing really holding me back. Let me know.

I was right there with him untill the light turned green.
