Those broken ring lands look exactly the way that Matt's did (I was there). Also, the exhaust valves and intake valves look the same as his did. When I pulled mine off, they were all black but I have a 95 and pulled it off with 91K on it...

Thanks, I was worried that I had barfed up some of the valves...I just got this head reworked with a 6 angle job, so I was hopeing that it was still good! I was trying to beat your record but I gave up after 10hrs. I got everything pulled, and reinstalled except the timing belt, and exhaust system. Not bad for a rookie huh!

Hehe, i think you got the record for engine damage though Yep, my piston looked just like those, as did my valves. I'm not sure if that color for the exaust valves is normal or not. They seem fine, but i dont know...man you did a number on those So what did you put back in the engine? Stock pistions? I hope you ran a cylinder hone in the cylinders before you did..Rings wont seat properly if not..

come come now...any novice engine rebuilder knows to engrave all the parts! Ya I honed all the cylnders....and ya stock pisons again. I am going to save up and get some foged internals this winter..when spring gets here....rebuild time again. I might even get some cam's to go with it...dunno yet..but I am sure I 'm going to buy a FMIC. Just cause they look hella cool. Iv got a 2g sidemount right now, ready to go into the car but...I'm in debate whether I want to just wait to get the FMIC. Well knowing me, I will put the side mount in, then get a front mount anyway. shit I might even put the two in series....don't think anyone has done that before.

Hehe, yeah just checkin. You got a 2g side mount? or the 1g side mount? The 2g one will really not fit well without some good modifing of the inlet/outlets, becuase of where they are postioned. Im sure you can make it work, but you may find a lot of difficulty in doing so. I'd get the 1g sidemount, they are plentiful on Ebay and in junk yards, and are cheap. Dont pay over 50 bucks for one. They fit pretty good on our cars, with just minor mods to get good airflow through it. Oh, how easy is it to hone the cylinders? I may do this instead of going oversize, but i'm not sure yet. My cylinders were in excellent shape, crosshatch and all still there, so i dont know. But you just put the hone in a drill and use some lube, right? They say to get a 40 degreee crosshatch in the cylinder wall, i was just wondereing how hard/easy that is to do by just moving that thing up and down..it seems like you would have to push it up and down right at the correct speed to do that?

My hone has 6" stones on it(three of them). Looks like some sort of touture device. They are basically sharpening stones. I set my drill at #3 and let her fly. Up and Down, for 45 seconds exactly on each cyl. I didn't use any "lube" but a bit of oil. It takes the glaze off of your walls. If you have the tool to measure your cylndr walls, I would do that, just to make sure they are still round. My dad has a shop and we measured mine with a tool that kinda looks like a "T" with a super sensitive measureing device that looks like a compression testor. It sits on the engine with a device that rotates it up and down through the cyl. You go up and down it in 4 differnt spots. Or at least that is what we did. I dont' rember what it is called sorry. Mine were all close to the same. Meaning not out of round.
