#3267, "Got RC 370cc's installed..."

LAST EDITED ON 29-Mar-01 AT 06:21 PM (PST)

Well, I just got my RC 370cc's installed today, and my fpr, at idle, is set at 29 psi. Under full boost I see about 60 psi and it's air/fuel is showing very "rich". The S-AFC is on its way.

PROBLEM:
1. The "Check Engine" stays on.
2. When rolling from a stop, with little pressure on the gas,
the car stutters real bad--sometimes even cutting off.
3. From a stop, if I rev it up a little before taking off,
the car will hesitate just a little. But, it sounds like
I'm wanting to race the next guy.

PLUS:
1. Once the initial hesitation is overcomed the car takes off
a lot stronger--without the "hesitation" I experienced
before the 370cc's were installed.
2. Hesitation on the freeway is almost non-existent. The car
accelerates stronger and faster.

My question is, has anyone experienced this situation or knows of anyone who has? Don (PHAT99ECLIPSE), did you friend have this problem? Any input by anyone is greatly appreciated.

that equals internal carbon build and a bad cat if you take too long. I would drop the stocks back in until you get the FC.

Sorry man, I've been pretty busy. I still experience the running "rich" symptom now but hopefully that'll be gone tomorrow. I just installed an APEXi S-AFC this afternoon and a friend of mine will help me set it up tomorrow morning. Thanks for trying to help. I really appreciate it.

fly 1, what year is your car? OBDI or OBDII? can you check the error codes by cycling the ignition key?

just wondering exactly what the ecu registers that as.

My car is a '98 GS, so it's OBDII. I tried the key cycling thing and it either didn't work or I didn't do it correctly. I haven't reset the ecu and I won't until I find out what caused the CEL to come on and stay on--still on, even after the S-AFC is installed. I've been getting off work very late, so I haven't gotten a chance to pick up an engine code troubleshooter unit. The S-AFC got rid of the rough idling and "stuttering" that I experienced before. My car actually runs really strong now.

Oh BoostnRS, to answer your question, I have HRC's adjustable FPR; I set the, at idle fuel pressure to 29 psi, and it was still very rich, which caused the prior rough idle problem. With
the S-AFC, I leaned it out and everything is fine now. I still have to set high throttle--rain mixed with snow prevented me from taking the car out to tune the top end. My current settings:

TH-point: Lo 30% Hi 80%
Ne point: 1k:-10 2k:-10 3k:-10 3.5k:-10 4k:-10 5k:-10 6k:-10 7k:-10

Right now, I'm playing on the safe side. Once I get an EGT gauge, I'll do a more precise trimming.

yeah i believe they disabled the key-cycling feature in 97 or 98. sucks. anyway, i'm glad the afc seems to be working for ya. i suspect that whatever tripped the check engine light is no longer a problem. good call on saving the error code by not resetting the ecu. i'm just as curious as you about what code was stored. gimme an update after you retrieve it with the scan-tool.
