#32346, "I Wanna turn up the boost"

This is a sorta newbie question. I have Star stage I w/ 1g SMIC and 2.5 exhaust w/ test pipe. I have 30lbs injectors sitting in the garage but I'm broke so I'm not sure how I can use them w/ the 12:1 disk. I'm asking this b/c I'm heading to the track in two weeks for a school function (SAE) and I want the car to have a good showing in a V8 town. I also have a spare intake that could be port matched but I don't know what kind of gains I'll see and if I should be wasting my cash there. I am broke but I think I'm getting free secondary transportation so if I break I can spare to fix the car on free time. I also don't have a UDP and "could" scrape some cash to get one. This is a very unorganized question so fell free to pick and choose what you want to answer and share opinions.

Shit is all apart. Typical...

Well I broke a piston at 10psi stock internals. I'm almost postive detonation did it. If you really want to, you can run 10 psi, but IMO, i would run race gas, and tune it rich, to lessen any chance of detonation. It would be much safer to run 8 psi really. Find a way to put in the 30 lb injects, which will be another safety measure, to be sure you can supply enough fuel for 10 psi, if you go that route. 8 psi, just run the stockers.

It seems to me that I'd get to 1600+ EGT's in a hurry w/ 8 psi. I believe you have the HRC kit and internal WG while I have the external WG and I believe it has the 5 lb spring. I traded my MBC for the injectors so the best I can do is run the screw in all the way and maybe get to 6 or 7 psi. I haven't quite noticed the heat soak problem I had asked you about awhile back with the 1g but it's been about 65 degrees here during the day.

Shit is all apart. Typical...

Correct me if I'm wrong but turning the screw on the wastegate is not going to up your boost. At least not on the Star kit. You have to buy a different spring.

Youre EGT's should not get any higer with running more boost, IF you have the proper A/F ratio. I'm not sure on the Starr kit, but on my HRC, i turned in the little piece on the end of the wastegate actuator rod in a few turns, that gave me a couple of more pounds of boost over the 5 psi spring that is in there. But dont know if that will work for you or not. As for the 1g Side mount IC, I had gotten mine from a guy who ran mid, to high 12's in the 1/4 with that IC on his 1st gen AWD. So that IC can flow quite a bit of air, without heatsoak. Just be SURE its getting really good airflow through it..

OK.. you can not up the boost by turning the screw on an external WG. If you do not have a BC you are stuck at whatever PSI the spring is. So without a BC if you want to run higher boost you will have to buy another spring for the WG or get a BC.

I was hoping to get like 6 or MAYBE 7 psi. I know that it is not a real adjustment screw but if I'm not mistaken it does adjust the diaphram in there. Maybe somebody with a better knowledge of the Delta II WG wants to chime in and explain it better. I was watching football last night and now that I've reread my post I think I asked some wrong questions. I'm more after a quicker 1/4 mile time. I'm going to practice on the launch to get the 60 ft times down, but my reaction is pretty good if I stay away from beer. If anybody has a good 14 sec recipe on 5 psi I'm ready. Thanks for the responses.

I think you should pay attention to the fact that your EGT climbs fast to 1600 degrees. Although, it is pretty safe to see 1600 degree EGT's, it should't climb too quickly. It would be okay if that's what you see at the top of a long 3rd or 4th gear pull.

I wouldn't recommend messing with the screw on top of the wastegate. It's not going to give you more boost, I tried it a long time ago and it did me no good.

OK, does anybody have an opinion on the cheap EBay MBC's to change my boost to about 7 or 8 psi? I saw a couple of them that are 9.99 plus ship that are ball and spring type. The only thing I saw was that they control boost from 9 psi and up. It doesn't make much sense since it is a ball and spring type. I saw an old post of Corbin's drawing of a MBC which would be very cheap and easy to make but I live in a small town and I don't think I can get all the parts. Hey Sonikbwem, if I can get some cash together soon, when are you free to help me tune the S-AFC and 30 lb injectors?

Pimp! I'll give you a mail after then. Thanks.
Hey Hades, what fuel system do you run? You bought a Star I and upgraded like me, so I'm curious if you are still on the stock injectors or what?
