Ok, I read some stuff that was posted on the asog board. Armond got an avenger up and runnuing up to 18 psi w/ only a SFMU and 441cc injectors. He said that an AFC can be used later to fine tune things.
Here's the deal, I want to eventually get the 440's and a SFMU as well as a datalogger. By using the SFMU and datalogger to get the fuel trims *close* to where they need to be, it will minimize the degree of compensation required by the AFC. We've all heard how the computer will advance timing when the AFC compensates alot b/c the computer thinks that the engine is now under a smaller load. So, by using the SFMU to do the bulk of the tuning, it will reduce the AFC to just the fine tuning aspect. I think that by rough tuning with just the SFMU, the AFC's input will be small enough that it won't affect timing much at all. I will be using a datalogger, too, so I won't have to guess about the timing. Obviously, if it won't work out at that point, I'll just have to get an ignition and retard timing. The thing is that by retarding timing just because the AFC is making the computer act funny seems like that could be a hesitation problem or one of those other oddballs that are hard to figure out. This all makes sense to me and I think it will be a very good solution for the boost I will eventually run (15 psi). Could you guys comment? I'd like to know what you think about this. It just seems like the car's computer can function closer to the way it should be by not fooling it to a large extent by means of the AFC.
