Well I was in electronics class and we did a lab that involved potentiometers. A potentiometer is basically a variable resistor, it has a knob on it so you can adjust how much resistance you want. Since I was playing around with my fuel pump I realized without the inline pump I can boost 2 psi.

I was thinking if I hooked up one of these potentiometers to my inline pump I could control the amount of fuel the inline pump pumps. I could find some kinda potentiometer that will drop the voltage like 1 or 2 volts. Then I could drive it since I'm running super rich and I could increase the reistance which would decrease how much the pump is pumping. Then if it's too rich or too lean I could increase the resistance or decrease the resistance accordingly. Then just stop when I get to the right amount of resitance.

NE1 think this is a good idea? Since the Star Kit really doesn't have any way to adjust the fuel system this might work. Seeing how just killing one of the pumps makes me run lean. But will running the pump with less voltage than it was designed to run be ok for it? I'm guessing this will decrease my overall mixture so it might make me run lean or rich in certain gears.

MSD Makes something similar. I think they call it a fuel pump voltage booster. Basically increses the voltage supplied to your fuel pump making it pump faster. Would probaly work really well. BTW Hades, Did you ever sort out that problem with getting your car smogged?

I'll have my dad look into this situation for you.... He is a EE, and he made my turbo timer for me out of things he bought at radio shack, and it is adjustable to.... Well after he comes up with something i will post a schematics sheet for you, and if you have any problems following it, i think that your teacher will be more than willing to give you a little help... (EE's can be hard to understand sometimes... believe me on that one)

The fuel pressure regulator is what is really deciding how much fuel you are supplying. Generally, the fuel pump is pumping too much fuel and the FPR is bypassing a portion back to the tank. The only way you could lean things out with this is if you lowered the voltage on the pump so far that it could not keep up with what the FPR demanded. If the FPR demanded 80 psi and you could only supply 78 psi, then you would be leaning things out. I personally, wouldn't suggest this as a good method. I'd go with an adjustable FPR or use those potentiometers on some of the sensors (MAP, IAT, ECT).

The star kit has the vortech fmu. Just throw in the 10:1 disc/ring and that will give you less fuel pressure per pound of boost. This will lean you out. I am wondering why you have not tried this? It works damn good.

Keep an eye on your egt numbers. If they get higher than you want them, just turn down the boost 1psi at a time.

hmm I thought about it but I was gonna rebuild in a few months so not sure. When I do the rebuild my air fuel ratio might change. I see that last disc set at vortechs site that has lotsa discs in it, is that really for real you get all those discs for slightly more than the price of one?
