Hi!

I wanted to know how many people have made their own turbo kits.

I am looking for something comparable to a Hahn Stage 1.

What parts do I need?

How much did you pay for everything? (Better off buying a Kit?)

Thanks for your time guys!

That is pretty close to my numbers too. I have a front mount though. Mine came to a total of about $1,600. It took me about a year to put it all together though. Just buy a kit.

By the way, that manifold was not $30. If it was I am going to buy them all.

I am now going with Alains manifold for ~$275 and if he can make an external WG than I'm going with that too. BTW, this has been a 5 month project so far just collecting parts.

Summit racing has SS lines and all plumbing can be found through Earls Plumbing.

Downpipe will be made my a local guy who makes custom manifold also. He charges $375 for a manifold but DAMN is it nice. Sometimes its hard to find a shop that will make downpipes though.

The WG actuator was from a stage 1 HRC kit. I bought it off another Jeff from 2gnt. I could probably modify the 14B WG rod and extend it but you risk the WG not being able to fully close if you extend too much. Running 5 psi is better than running 12 psi on stock internals.

All in all I would probably say the kit is the way to go UNLESS you have the time/patience/know-how to do all this mess.

By the time I'm done I'll probably have spent $2000 since my list isn't quite finished.

thanks!

im still WELL away from doing any turboing, but im trying to collect as much info now to make it easier when i save up the money. i really dont want to do anything over 5psi (or at least to start:)), so the WG was my main concern.

Jeff, talking to the dsm guys last night, the 14b wastegate isnt @ 12lbs, its only 7lbs. the BCS is why they run 12lbs stock, not the wastegate. FOr example, on my friends 91 awd, their is no BCS, and when he took the boost controller off, he was running around on only 7lbs of boost

ATX->MTX Swap
Holset HX40 @ 26 psi

Between you and me if you could have te chance to get a manifold made locally you should spend the $100 more and take it there. with your turbo on hand, so everything will be custom fit to your taste, manifold, turbo placement and downpipe

How much power do these homemade turbos make. And how much boost do they run. Is there a possibilty that they will produce more power then a boughten kit. Or is it merly a lil more power.

Custom versus production kit has nothing to do w/ power output. It's turbo size, intercooler, and tuning.
