Is it to help prevent detonation??? Cooler EGT's??? etc......??? I used the regular stock range for a few weeks, the 1st time I was turbo'd. Then switched to the 7e-11's, I noticed my EGT's seemed to drop a little, not much, but a little. How do colder plugs fire differently that stock range???? Thanks.

All a colder plug does is that it can run colder It can wisk away more heat quicker for a colder plug. If you would switch to a colder plug and you stayed NA, the plug would probably foul by not completly buring off the deposits. But when you have a turbo, much more heat is generated, more heat goes to the plug, so you need a colder plug to get it back to stock like temps.

No, the spark is the same regardless, a colder plug will simply run cooler than a hotter plug, as far as how hot the plug is. A colder plug has a shorter insulator and body, which means heat can be disapated quicker, hence running cooler than a plug with a longer insulator and body. Its always a good idea to run cooler plugs with a turbo becuase there is a lot more heat generated in the cylinder, and you will heat up a stock plug much faster/more than a colder plug. I would say there is a greater chance of doing damage to the plug if it gets way to hot, from a stock range plug.

it also makes your car warm up slower hehe I noticed that my car warmed up faster with 6es than 7es. I heard you can melt spark plugs too if they get too hot. Also everyone tells me that colder plugs are better for faster cars. It just is hehe.... I told my auto teacher that I was putting in hotter plugs (this was when I was NA) and he said did you know that they actually use colder plugs in racing engine to keep it cooler. haha anyway my car doesn't run past like 1500 it rediculously rich or just not burning hot enough

It makes a lot of sence to me to use colder plugs. I was curious what you guys think of the bosch 4+ plugs? I am using them nt and they rock. But as for a turbo application, what do you guys think? Nick
