Ok guys, I have heard some horror stories about forced induction turbosystems such as hahn. I was just looking for some honest answers as to what you guys think the chances of blowing a completely stock engine with a turbosystem such as hahn.(stage 1 or 2) I'm not talking about the higher levels. And lets say to save everyone time that this "stock" car that we are throwing the hahn kit on has a 3 inch exhaust all the way back, with stock cat. convertor. doing no other modifications (obviously it will be tuned professionally with gauges and such).. What are the chances, considering this car is well maintained and never raced or beat on.. that you will blow the engine.. say it has 50,000 miles on it right now and no mechanical or electronic problems up to this point... What are the chances of just flat out blowing the engine or having to do a rebuild.. (this car will not be raced or ever pushed to its limit just daily driven).. I'm just curious as to what you guys think the lifespan of this engine and turbosystem will be.. Lets say it's in fact the stage 2 hahn system... Thanks for any help you can give.. I'm just alittle curious.

here's the deal


the motor could a: last forever (thousands of thousands of miles)

or blow instantly (under 100 miles later)


the motor is totally unpredictable about this...that is until you rebuild, then boom, you watch your gauges and you'll be safe

If you start off with a motor in great condition (180+ psi compression), then physically, it should be just fine. You should be able to run 10 psi on a Hahn kit without engine failure for quite some time. Years. The thing that will blow a motor, regardless of what kit you have, or even how much boost you are running, is IMPROPER TUNING!! Running to lean will blow any motor, built up or not. You can blow a motor with 2 psi of boost running too lean. Detonation will do a lot of damage to the stock motor if it gets too severe, you will crack pistons or ring lands. I have been running 10 psi on the stock motor for a bit now, and i drive it pretty hard at times. A few track runs, and of course some stoplight racing to boot. I use upgraded fuel injectors to ensure proper fueling and to lessen any chance of running to lean, causing detonation. Getting any decent amount of detonation at 10 psi on a stock motor, will most likely do damage. Our stock connecting rods start to bend at around 12-13 psi. I would say that is a extremem maximum to run. 10 psi shouldnt be out of the question. I currently have 195-200 psi of cylinder compression across the board, and 76,000+ miles on the motor, about 8 to 10,000 turboed miles so far without any engine probs or failures.

alright sounds good.. I guess i'll have to do my homework on tuning before this thing is installed and make sure I watch the gauges carefully.. do you recommend an injector upgrade? what size should i go with? thanks

yeh you pretty much don't know what'll happen to your car. Been turboe'd for more than a year and my compression sux ass but it still runs haha. The engine was showing signs of wear when I bought the car so that coulda contributed to it. It only takes one wrong mistake to mess your engine up ie: oil line pops out, high EGTs, lean mixture, timing belt snap, etc... If you got perfect compression and take good care of your car you probably shouldn't have anything to worry about.
