#3084, "I got a BOV question"

Ok here it goes. I just got my Greddy S-type BOV and installed it (temterarly) on my car. The system as it is, is now a stage 1 do to my selling of the FMIC set up. So my question is, should the BOV sound like a flat tire? I dont know forsure if since I am now a stage I, if that has a lot to do with the sound of a BOV, but ever since I went to a stage I and am useing the greddy BOV, I sound like a tire gone flat. Whats up with that? Is there even enough preasure build up on a stage one to need a BOV?
Thanks for the help.

oh ya...hahah yea my BOV sounds like that when I partially close of the throttle plate (so the pressure drops 1-2psi -- ie boost guage read 3 psi, let foot off a bit boost reads 0psi)...

but if you close off throttle completely so that boost reads in vacuum, then you hear it go PSSSTWHOOOOOOOOOOSH...

If so what do you have it set for Hard or soft? how far is your Allen screw turned in? Also, I notice with this BOV that there is mayjor vacum being sucked in through the dump. Now I know that vacum seals the BOV and preasure(boost) trapped in there opens and causing it to go Whoooooosh!, but mines seems to make that PLBSHBSHBSHBSH! more times than it does the PSSSSSWOOOOOOSHHHHH!
I bought this BOV cause I thought it would sound tight!, but now that it sounds the way it does the 3000gt or the 1G bov, sould way nicer. That cant be!

I have the HKS standard one..
it sounds ok, but not as great as TurboXS IMHO.

Don't get the HKS SS...it'll sound like a chipmunk..

Most high performance after market BOV's aren't fully effective unless your running at least 7psi of boost so if you are running a Stage I kit now you are probably boostin @ 5psi (*hopefully --BOOM!!!) and there isn't enough positive pressure for the BOV to fully vent. I know people with turbos who boost @ 4 - 5psi and have Super Seq. BOV's that sound like bad whistles when they blow off. Mabye wait until you put back on an intercooler and turn your boost back up.

Isn't the Greddy BOV the one that sounds like a "cow laughing"?
Or more like a turkey making silly sounds?

Hehe, seriously though, LOTS of people with Greddy BOVs have
funny sounding ones that release pressure in "puffs" not in one
major "psshh"... There is a fix out there, something to do with
the hookup of the BOV.. check the dsm.org archives (if they
work)...

As for Air being sucked back IN..well its true... Thats why the
new Blitz SSBOV has an airfilter attachment to it!

Check it out, It looks awesome:
