I got my pistons and rods today
I was very surprised
Contrairy to everything told by "experts" Chrysler is not building a clone or improved mexican engine but they came out with a brand new design for rods and pistons

Pictures are at
http://www.asog.net/schoeby/alain/

Compression of the stock GT Cruiser is 8.2:1, oil squirting is part of the rods, pistons are teflon coated, engine will be non-interference
I expect to hit 20 psi on those internals

was readin thru bobs pages in that link, he mentioned that the new rods are bigger and better, but dont appear to be as "substantial" as the old t2 rods, wonder how much of a difference there really is

You saw the pics didn't you? The T2 rods looked a hair beefier than the 2.4L rods.

just from glancing at it they look to be the same difference as a stock 2g 4g rod and the 1g 4g "big" rod.

Bob doesnt seem to impressed

:/

reading thru some of these threads, seems like they turbo pistons/rods are an improvement over stock stuff, but the turbo 2 rods are still considered superior. but for $200, i wonder just how much they can take...if they can take 20lbs of boost, its a great deal for a 300-350whp ready-engine

In no way I would have paid total retail price on those
but at $52 it's a very very good deal indeed
and at $37.03 it's simply and absolutely ridiculous
Yes they are probably a bit whimpier than the old 2.5 because they are a little bit narrower and cast instead of forget, but they are probably ligther too , the oiling system is more modern so this is also a plus, non interference ... anyone here who blew a timming belt raise you hand ...

I think they are perfect for what I said they should be used for, in a Stage III low compression engine built for 20 psi

I really like the fact that the T2 rods could handle 31+ PSI of boost in the 2.5L motor. That means that with the lower compression that results from using these pistons in the 2.4, higher boost levels are attainable. I prefer low compression high boost engines as long as they have sufficient low end grunt. Let's face it, any motor with a stroke of 101.3MM will have low end grunt, providing it has more then 2 cylinders. I think that for the slight difference in price (I mean, 400 dollars for a set of internals that can handle 30+ PSI), it would be worth going with the T2 unternals. Not a whole lot of money for what you get.
All of this is only in my opinion, though.
