A guy at work asked me why my ring landings broke, simply I just told him I was a dumb ass and put a turbo on a car that didn't originaly come with at turbo. But seriously, why would this thing break? age, use, extreme heat (detonation).

Uneven distribution of high levels of load caused by preignition.

>Could the apexi unit be a major contribtor to this?
If tuned grossly incorrectly it could be the only contributor assuming your talking about the AFC.
Most stock pistons also have the top ring up higher on the pistons that aftermarket pistons (thinner ring land)because it reduces hydrocarbons. Good for emmisions, bad for protection from detonation forces. Combustion is a controlled explosion (firing at the right time to keep from fucking your engine up). Detonation is uncontrolled and exerts much greater forces on your internals (like ring land busting forces)

hey, it was a good, simple question. I just supplied a good simple answer. detonation is 100% of why ring lands break (or crack).

read the article in my technical section of www.armond30.com. that should give you some ideas on how to keep that from happening.
