#30642, "Installing a turbo on a high-mileage car"

Just want to get some opinions on this. I have a 1996 Talon that I'm planning to install a Hahn Stage 2 turbo on, but it has 91K miles (bought it late last year with 86K). Do you think putting in a turbo is a good idea? Anything in particular I should take care of before having the turbo put in?

My GS had 112,500 miles on it when I added a Hahn Stage 2 turbo kit.*

*Disclaimer: I did blow my engine about 5,000 miles later, but not because the engine had high mileage. I turned the boost up too high for stock internals. emoji

Thanks for the tips guys. I just got back from the mechanic, and the numbers are 180, 180, 185, 175.

But now I read after doing a search (which I should have done BEFORE getting the compression test emoji ), I find that you're supposed to be on the gas when the test is being done. When my test was performed, I only had the clutch down while cranking the engine.... not the gas. How does this affect the numbers (if at all?)

I don't know that it will do to much to it because I got 205 / 205 / 210 / 210 without being on the gas. I was just holding down the clutch to let it crank. I wonder if I need to test again.

I've tested it both ways and found little difference between opening the throttle and not opening it. I wouldn't sweat it. 175-180 psi in all cylinders isn't bad. The big thing is that its even. Anything from 180-210 is common (mine are 205-210).

A compression test is generally nice but a leakdown test is better..considering you don't have to worry about starter condition or how well your battery is....but if all is generally good then go ahead and Boost away but nothing past 10psi.

also another thing you may want to consider is not using that God-damn noisy ass accel in-line pump that HAHN offers....go ahead with a Nippo denso or a Supra fuel pump...quite and can reach Hp level to about 550hp.
