I have a friend here in San Antonio with a '95 GS with a Star Kit that he upgraded to a Stage 2. He has built internals and is running Venom 390cc Injectors with the stock ECU and the standard Star Fuel setup (i.e. 12:1 FMU, in tank fuel pump, that's it...). The car runs and is using the 390's with no problems, except dumping alot of fuel at idle since he is still using the stock FPR... If he can run 390's with out a Super AFC, I wonder are 440's too much to hope for? He is a '95 (ODB-I) and I have a '99 (ODB-II). I wonder if my ECU would behave the same way? With a boost sensitive adjustable FPR, we should, theoritically, be able to trim down the idle FP and increase the FP at boost... Damn, this is making me get a chubby to know I might be able run bigger injectors without having to wait to get a AFC first...
Anyone else know anyone running this big an injector on the stock ECU?

Umm...in my opinion, the SAFC doesn't really do anything below 1000rpm (my car idles at about 900 when warm) so all the people who currently do have 440s are using their stock ECUs to compensate.. The stock ECU is not stupid, infact it is probably more advanced than just about most Aftermarket piggy-back stuff. It sees all the extra fuel dumped and then "learns" to give the car much less fuel..
But then again the real question would be how do you plan on tuning the 440s? By fuel pressuriser?

Keep all your fingers crossed people! Looks like it's all falling in place finally... I might actually be *driving* my car soon! Its only been 5 LONG months...

Doesn't that make the car run "rich"? Just a thought because I got 370cc injectors and I'm thinking about installing it before I get my S-AFC. Anyone else have opinions or suggestions about this?

Absolutely you will run rich, unless you have an adjustable FPR to turn down the FP at idle... Also, you would probably run rich under boost, depending on how much you were boosting... which is ideally what we should want if we want to avoid detonation...

Not if your cat is already gutted... BTW, what is "air care"? Never heard of it... If you mean smog inspection, I don't have to worry about that here in San Antonio, atleast not yet...

The AFC is not necessary for getting larger injectors to work in the first place. The adustable fpr can crank down the pressure so you can idle just fine. The main reason for the AFC is for tuning your fuel curve which helps gas mileage, power, fouling of plugs, etc etc. Running rich is good, but running too rich is not.

Hey Murix, you'd said that running too rich isn't good either. I have heard that running rich wastes spark plugs and kills the cat-converter, is there any other damages or effects of running overly rich that you could think of?

What you mentioned would be the main problems. Plugs, Cat, gas mileage, less power. A very long term effect could be carbon deposits building up in head. That will reduce heat dissipation and potentially make it hotter in there. It is ok to run a little rich, but not really to run way too rich which is what can happen with larger injectors and a fpr and no way of fine tuning.
