i'm in the middle of putting together my custom turbo kit using a 14b off my friends galant vr-4. right now as far as fuel is concerned i have 4 mustang 30lb injectors and a walbro 255lph fuel pump currently installed in the car.

my question is would that be enough to support boost???

if yes, up to how many lbs?

if no, what else do i need?

NO.

You need some sort of boost dependant fuel pressure riser (vortec s-fmu or regualr fmu or cartech)

If you want a regular 12:1 fmu I can hook you up since I think I'm going to a S-FMU now.

HARDCORE! you can run the car with the 30lb injectors and that monster walbro pump without haveing the turbo setup or even a sfmu to adjust the idle fuel pressure? talk about fuel over kill. i thought youd be running rich as all hell but i guess the ecu can controll it all ok?

well to be honest with you i just installed the injectors about a day and a half ago i haven't even turned the car on because during the installation of the turbo i've been running into stupid hitches

(eg. a brand new 2 ton jack that just gave out while we were working on the car. and now it can't even lift up feather.)

i was told by one of the neighbor hood tuning shops that my ecu could handle those injectors. i just wanted to find out that if it was possible to run just that and the fuel and totally do with out the fmu or sfmu.

You need a fuel pressure regulator that rises with boost, like mentioned above. Look at the Vortech FMU or SFMU. Our ECU can controll up to 315cc injects without a prob(30lb). You just need to have around 30-40 psi of fuel at full vacum and idle. I have no idea what your boosted fuel pressure should be, since the 14b turbo isnt commonplace here, and I dont know the flow rate either. Start off rich, then go down i guess. Be SURE to have an EGT gauge and at least a voltmeter hooked to your o2 sensor wire to monitor your o2 voltages..Without a fuel pressure regulator on the car, you will run WAAYYYY too much fuel pressure, as the walboro pump is a high volume, high pressure pump. Get a vortech SFMU, awsome regulator

Well how much PSI you plan on running with that turbo? I know it is def smaller than the S16G that I have, so you will not need as much fuel pressure to boost. You can also use the stock injectors too if you want, it should be fine for that turbo really. But to give you an idea..I am putting in my 30lbs injects soon, and i need to run about 30-40 psi of fuel at idle. To run 8 psi on my turbo, i will need around 90 psi of fuel(approx). I have the 3.62" disk in my SFMU, and i am using the bleed valve to bleed off some of the boost fuel pressure to lower the fuel pressure to fine tune my o2 voltages.This is with the stock injects. If you get the SFMU, shoot for the 2.72" disk/ring setup, and run the idle fuel pressure above. This should be a good start, and you will run rich with that setup. Tune down from there. The 2.72" disk is like 6.5:1 fuel ratio or close to that. 12:1 is wayyyyy to much fuel for your setup.

"On you Fuel rail where your injectors are, on the drivers side of the fuel rail there is 2 lines an upper and lower. The upper is fuel return and the lower is fuel feed. The lower line you will not touch. You will only remove the upper (fuel return) line from the fuel rail. Ok remove the upper return line from the fuel rail, attach the 1/2 coupler and clamp it to that line. Now run that line to the center nipple of the VORTECH FMU. That is the OUT fitting. Next take the other line provided with your kit, and attach it to the other nipple of the VORTECH FMU. That is the IN then attaches that end to the fuel rail. Next take the long line provided with the kit and connect one end to the small fitting on top of the FMU that is the vacuum line for the Stock fuel pressure regulator, take that line and run it under you car and T it into the vacuum line that comes off your stock fuel pressure regulator. Use tie wraps to secure the hose under your car and that’s it." (Shaun Frank -- NER)

"i was planning on running about 10 lbs of boost on the 14b." -well you can easily run EXACTLY that amount, the stock wastegate on a 14b is set at 10psi so no need to invest in a boost controller of any sort for now. and ya cant get any lower than 10 unless you do some ghetto rigging of bending the metal arm on the actuator thing or whatever its called. or create boost leaks intentionally haha.


"so i guess at this point the 30 lb injectors are not necessary....hmmmmmmmmm" HEY! if you would have just told me i wasted money on something i didnt need for my el cheapo turbo project i'd be quite upset haha. those injectors are very very good to have. if you just use your stock injectors and an aftermarket pump, im pretty sure you'd have to run alot higher fuel pressure to achieve the same fuel flow as you would get with the 30lb injects with a lower fuel pressure. and injectors dont last forever.

keep em' because even if you didnt need them now, youd want bigger injectors later on down the road when your car feels just as slow as it did before the turbo, so you decide to get some lower compression pistons and crank the boost. alot of the turbo folks here on 2gnt are proof that the "i need more boost" syndrome sets in dangerously quicklike

well I plan on running the 8 injector set up , so I guess my fmu wont be needed right? I guess i can sell that?
