#30170, "theoretically won't our cars run better with lower octane."
i know that since we are turbo we have to watch for detonation(spark knock). with turbo is our car firing too soon with 87? or has anyone tried it. the higher octane you go the slower you are burning so why go any higher than you have to, won't it just hurt you performance? so unless running high boost there is no need for race fuel is there? just some thoughts...enlighten me..

Actually no, here's why: A higher octane indicates not only a longer burn but also more controlled. If you fill a gallon container full of gas and toss a match, you'll get a flash but not all the gas will be burned--so you haven't optimized all the energy that COULD have happened. Now, if you put a torch to the gas and let everything burn evenly and thoroughly you've made more energy. So in conclusion to this shit example, more energy is spent by a longer burn which = more HP. Hope this helped.
