#29970, "Why is STRAUSS's car so damn fast!!???"

We cannot figure this out. Aric and I both have no idea. I've read everywhere and have not seen any speeds close his with low boost. Even guys that are boosting WAY higher are no where near his speeds? 115.9MPH?? It's just nuts. All I see are mostly 105MPH or so..some less. Not being an ass..I'm just lost. I have tried to think of every possible explanation with no conclusion. Anyone??

I thought of that also. He's trapping at crazy speeds. Mus be a good driver. What kind of tires/slicks does he use at the track?

He ran BF T/A G-Force drags but they spun pretty bad down the track. No Dino..the track is not broke! emoji If it was just one run that had a high trap it would make sense that it was a screw up. But he trapped 115.9,114,114,112 I believe last time. The car was running hot so it got slower each run. He does drive well. I think him and I are some of the best drivers around here(pat myself on the bac emoji). But I don't see how they can be such a difference in speeds. Our track is at 150ft above sea level...pretty low. It was warm out that day but we live WAY North so it is cool here mostly. Can't wait to see what he traps in the colder weather!!

I'm with you -- it's mind bogling! I could understand if he were running 25+ psi boost with a bad 60 ft., but that isn't the case here.

I'm not sure why the hell I'm getting these trap speeds. But I'll tell you what, and DSBLK93GT can vouch for me, the fucking car is FAST! I mean, when you start having more fun racing 600cc crotch rockets on the highway than you do cars, you have one fast car emoji I love racing motorcycles, especially when I beat them }>

It probably has to be the location of the track, the air, back wind, or something. I don't think driving skill alone explains the high trap speed here. The car is FAST! That's great.

Good driver equals low et.

Powerful motor equals high traps.

I have wondered how in the hell he pulls a 115 every time I see his signature. I will not pull a BS flag because I honestly believe you guys. I just want to know how. Could something like the boost gauge be off? Maybe a leak so it is actually reading incorrectly and you are running a lot more than you think? A dyno might help tell you some numbers.

Probably a mix of perfect track, weather and kick ass driver along w/ maybe some luck w/ having factory feak. Did u ever run your car when it had less mods or when it was NT Aric? Anyway you think your boost controller mighta spiked in 3rd gear and u hit higher boost? You will get a big head but your probably one of the few reasons I kinda aim towards keeping my car cause most people on hear after a rebuild are still stuck in 13's w/ 13 sectrap speeds w/ a full rebuild. Then you got Jeff's 1G running a 13.6 w/ a clutch and a KN filter. Not fair. You think theres a chance Howell sent you the wrong pistons and your running stock or high compression instead of low compression? That happened w/ Vinny (Kiku's) Sebring when he blew his rings and found out he was sent 12:5:1 pistons instead of 10:5:1.

Oh yes, we forgot to mention that those runs I had before were with NGK plugs that were one range HOTTER than stock! The parts store screwed up and went the wrong way with the part#, so I ended up with BKR5E's. About 3 weeks ago I put the 7's in and it made a HUGE difference! The colder plugs along with the Crane ignition now installed, the car pulls much harder. Like I was telling DSBLK93GT, next time I'm at the track I expect to trap even higher, not sure about a better time though. I was running my drag radials before but now they are bald so I'm running around on 16" snow tires. 12psi of boost spins those snow tires like a mutha! I know I won't hook up for shit, so better times are not expected, but I know the car has more power. Thats the reason why I haven't put the injectors in yet, because the car is so fast now that I'm just gonna wait awhile. When I finally get sick of 12psi, or end up getting beat on the street(hasn't happened yet emoji ) I probably will put them in. I don't know whats gonna happen with 16psi, hopefully everything stays together! It just blows people away when you nail it next to a motorcycle doing 50mph or so, and you break the tires loose intensely, and upshift into third and start to pull on the bike!!! I get guys all the time that follow me after just to find out why my car pulls on them, they all assume I have NOS....

Well..I know it is fast. My car is pretty quick and my traps are the other night were 101.9 and my best ever was 103.2 and he WALKS me good. He is not retarding the timing at all either...that kills power. No sense in running more boost if you take away timing. Timing is free HP. He runs VP Red 105/94 Sunoco mix on the street and at the track with no detonation. Thats could be it too. Timing is worth alot of power on a forced induction car.

It is worth mentioning that a lot of spinning can contribute to a high mph, but his is still pretty high.

Spinning can make the MPH higher but not that high. Usually a car tha spins more will trap a few MPH more at most. BUT..I have lost 3mph from spinning really bad. I got a 14.4@97 before because I spun so bad at the track. With ok traction(2.1-2.2 60ft's) I trap around 102MPH and with better(2.05-2.08) hookup I get little over 100MPH. So Need to get Strauss's car on the dyno I guess!! emoji

Your joking right? If it was one run sure. But every time he has went it has gotten over 110 MPH. All but one run. And all the rest of us guys get same times as we should. PLUS..it would explain why he can whoop even modded LS1's. He has not ben beat yet..by anything on the street. I don't know..thats why I asked!!! emoji

Definitly was not a fluke. I currently walk cars that trap close to 110mph(some of the LS-1's to be exact) on the street whenever I run into them. Like Dave said, I trapped 110mph or higher every run I had since I tuned it with the S-AFC. It is fast, and it is faster than normal, looks like my car is the "factory freak" of the turbo'd 420A's. Also, like Dave said as well, all the cars up there that run are running "normal" times. It's not some "freak" track.....just more like some "freak" behind the wheel emoji Oh yes, you know what, it sucks to work this hard on a car and spend this much money on it, only to have it be a huge succces, then have people doubt me. I'm sorry guys....but the track isn't broke.

Dont worry Strauss, I for one believe you. I know EXACTLY how it feels to have people doubt your times with your mods. Actually, Dave_FL was one of the ones to doubt me. He just seems to deny anyone who runs faster than him with less mods. Us "Freaks" gotta stick together emoji Good times, good traps! I cant wait till I'm boosted. }> I'm expecting some good times/power.

Dood, I think that is cool as shit. I have never taken my car to the track so I don't know what I can run, but damn, I doubt my car is that fast. I am really jealous of you and it gives me something to strive for. I for one would love to see your car on the dyno. Congrats and keep up the good work!!!

I dont hate anyone who runs faster than me. If they run fatser with less mods more power to them. I just doubt some things that seem impossible. I am around many turboed cars mostly 4g63's and it takes atleast 18-20psi on a s16g to run a 115mph trap speed. If he can do it then good for him. The numbers just dont add up but who cares anyway.

BTW ...Its not nice to call people out like that. I was just aggreeing with Dino.

I personally think it's great that Strauss' car could trap that high speed. It's true that most of us get on this board to share ideas, and to try to help each other with just about everything, in regards to turbocharging the 420A.

However, no one should overlook the fact that Strauss' trap speed is unusually high for the amount of boost that he runs. Those types of trap speeds, usually, are only seen in cars running high 12's. I guess what I'm trying to say is, it's awesome that he could trap those speeds, but at the same time, there should be some concern that there might be something wrong.

For example, there could be a major boost spike, the boost line to the boost gauge could be leaking (and he could possibly be running higher boost, unknowingly), he might have higher compression pistons sent to him by mistake. Now, if none of these are ruled out, then great! That means the rest of us has something to look forward to.

Furthermore, if one of the above possibilities does exist, then it needs immediate attention because his engine will blow up, soon.

Strauss, you know I've never doubted you, man. Actually, you're one of the guys who've inspired me to look at my car more closely. Keep up the great times! emoji

I do think at one pont in time the boost has spiked up to close to 15psi...but only for a second. That would not make up that much of a difference. If he is running 18+ psi then I guess he has some good flowing stock injectors! emoji There is no way we can run that much boost with stock injectors..they would shit out...be way past 100% duty cycle.I did most of the work on the car....so I know what is in it. We never put the bigger injectors in because he wanted to break it in 1st...then throw them in later. BUT..we were only shooting for low 14's maybe a high 13 at around 103 or so. But when he walked my car pretty bad...I knew it was faster..MUCH faster! Those traps are good for 12's with traction...but the tires would not hook at all..mostly becasue of poor track conditions (no tracion compound). The day we ran it last...the track was being rented out by a Hyundai Club! I guess they didn't think the Tiburons would need any traction compound! emojiThey let him run anyway...after we begged the owner. He slipped in and ran it a few times...and you should have seen the faces when it ripped off that 13.6@115.9!! Crazy....but the truth. If any of you guys ever want to venture out here to chech it out..feel free. Come see it in action....and witness it in person.

Thanks for all the support guys...hopefully I can get back to the track in about a month. First I(really DSBLK93GT) got to change out this leaky headgasket that I have....and I might as well put in the 440's while I'm at it. Next time at the track I'll be running 16psi emoji

i agree with the few others, you def should look into the fact that you either have the wrong sized pistons,or boost gauge problems. if not, thats cool and your car is just wicked. ive done about everything you have done to your car and i also ported the head and i dont think i would come close to 115mph but i havent actually gone to the track since the rebuild, but i did beat a 93 rx7 with apexi fuel computer, downpipe upgrade and a few extra goodies, so who knows...but make sure everything is correct.
