Well I have had the engine rebuilt for about 5k miles now. When I start the engine I of coarse have a lot of piston slap. But after I drive for a while and it has had plenty of time to warm, I still hear a tapping noise that sounds like piston slap. A guy at work said it sounded like a valve. But when I rebuilt it I have a valve job done also..or at least they were supposed to do one.
What do you guys think it could be and what could I do to check it out???
Thanks

is it like a ticking noise if so it may be that you have an exhaust manifold leak i had the same prob..and it turnedout to be the gasket on the header of mycar was leaking replaced it and bingo...try it

I have the same problem that chaye is talking about. It sounds like a ticking noise. What happened with me is I had to have my HRC manifold re-welded because of cracks and the flange got slightly warped, so its spitting some exhaust out where the turbo bolts to the manifold. Ahhh yet another thing to get taken care of...

Yeah I know that thing leaks, I had it taken off and put back onto the head 3 times...but I still see black dots all over the place so i know it is still leaking from somewhere, but no this is a knocking noise, I have poped the hood and listnend.
