#29099, "My boost controller is wacked out...."

Well i have been noticing a boost creep/ boost fade problem ever since i got the Hallman MBC, and the IC installed. Its wierd. If i floor it in 2nd gear, i hit 8 psi, sometimes 9, then once the rpm's get up to 5000 or more, the boost fades back down to almost 6 psi! Whats even more strange, is that it doesnt do it sometimes, or it does it in other gears. Like if im in 4rth cruising, then i push the pedal to the floor, not quickly, but steady, the boost creaps up to like 9 psi or so. So i was thinking all along its the MBC, so i disconnected it, and just ran the the HRC 5 psi wastegate spring thats in the wastegate actuator. Low and behold, i hit a rock solid 4.2 psi. In every gear, no matter what. Is this normal for a MBC??? Does anyone have the Hallman? Its either coming down to getting a Profec B, but funds are tight right now. I could make one, but i dont really want to do that, could lead to the same problems. So what other MBC's are out there that some of you are using, without ANY spikes or fades???? Sucks, cause i paid 50 bucks for this damn thing emoji Any help is appreciated.. Oh yeah, i thought it was a boost leak, but ALL of my connections are tight as all hell..

I just got one of the latest model hallman mbc's, it's the ES model. I have it set to .5 bar and it gets there quickly w/ no spike at all and it stays there. It does not fall any after it hits peak boost. maybe the spring inside is messed up. If you go to boostcontroller.com they have an address to email for assistance. They may be able to send you a new spring or even replace the whole thing, who knows? It's worth a shot. if anything they may be able to help you find out what's wrong if it isn't the controller. BTW, the hks ez evc is electronic. I think it was real close in price to the profec B, though. i was thinking about buying a profec a while back, but i decided it wasn't woth the money for my purposes. If you're getting an electronic bc, my vote goes towards the profec. Good luck!

Horsepowerfreaks.com hasthe single solenoid blitz boost controller for $259. From what I have heard it is a very nice unit. Basically the same thing as the evc ez, i mean they both only have one setting. Just a thought.

My Turbo XS Standard MBC is pretty wacked too. It holds solid boost up to 15 psi. When I set it 17-18 psi, I noticed that it spikes to about 20 psi! I'll be looking for a new boost controller here soon, too. I like the Profec-B, but it's so darn expensive. I'm definitely getting one next Spring though.

Well the HKS EZ has been discontinued..There is a new version of the Blitz unit, but still around 260-300 for a good electronic boost controller..I emailed Hallman, we'll see what they can do for me. Does anyone have/run the TurboXS MBC? I've always liked the TruboXS stuff, so is that one any good?? I have too heard good stuff from the Joe P guys as well...i almost got that one too emoji

I run a Dejon Tool MBC. It holds steady boost pressure with no spikes or creeping, and I even have it running through a 4g63's stock FPR solenoid which makes it electronic (kinda, I have a switch in the car for low/high boost). Not sure the price of the Dejon Tool MBC cuz I bought it used.

I also have a friend selling a Profec-B right now, I have it posted on the for sale list. It's only been on the car for about 4 months, so it's still in great condition. She's selling it because she never uses the low boost setting. emoji $250.

Well Hallman wants me to send back my BC, and he says they will replace it for free with the updated model. He says that some of the BC's have had problems like mine, because the bleed hole on it was too large or something..Oh well, damn its gonna suck to run 4 psi for a bit emoji I really want an eclectronic one..

Please leave it to HKS to keep messing with the good things. First the blue colored 200MM filter element and now the EVC EZ, which I have an live by it. If you really want it find the cash and look around to see if you can find one left over or there is always ebay. Good to see that they will replace your MBC for a better one and most important for free. Later.
