Merging and passing is a lot faster therefore safer. It used to take forever to pass people going 55 but now I can get around them in a few seconds. So I'm not facing oncoming traffic for very long.

It's your money, right? Your car? If so, then what say do your parents have in it at all?

Just tell them that you were originally going to get the gst or tsi in the first place. And all that you want to do is make your car like the "stock" gst. And that this is cheaper than selling your car and puchasing a turbo version. Plus if you had the gst or tsi your insurance would be more. This put my father a little bit more at ease when I told him I'm going to turbo my car.

I tried the "it is safer for passing and merging" thing back in the day too. But that didn't work. Just say it will make the car more enjoyable to drive and stuff. Tell the truth. Part of the truth is increased gas mileage on the highway emoji

Man I'm glad my dad is an ex hot rodder, when i lived with them i did what ever to my car,. just tell them the truth, they will respect u for it, tell them u'll take full Responsibility for it and what ever happens. I don't know hoe else to tell u. Try breaking down to them do your research and go over it with them, they should take u as more of an adult and hopefully let you do it. I don't want to see break your parents trust over a turbo by doing it without telling them u know?

Good luck,

Jay

P.S I'm glad I'm old..

Man tell your Dad that installing the turbo will be a bonding moment where Dad can help son, also call the insurance company and ask for a GS-T or GSX quote for you. If all else fails, I'll take the old man out in my car so he can hear the cool sounds and smell of roasting BFG's.

Shit is all apart. Typical...

I got the same thing from my Dad. "why" seems to be their greatest question on getting a turbo. Actually, its a good one, and we really dont NEED a turbo of course, but i said this, and its the truth. Tell them what do they like to do with their spare time and money? What are their hobbies? For me, i love cars and working on them, making something slow faster, ect..What difference is it when someone else like women for example. Most like to shop and spend money, but shoes, whatever. Thats what they like to do, and they dont HAVE to go shopping and spen tons of money.. There is so much to be gained from working on a car yourself, the learning experience pays for itself over car classes anyday IMO. But most of all, like said above, dont give them lines of BS, they will not be fooled. Tell them the truth, and promise to take full responsibiltiy for your actions and what may come about with a turbo charged car. Show them honesty, and maturity, and that you dont foolishy spend all your money on whatever. Good luck.

just tell 'em "it's a hobby..at least im not doing drugs" it's something for me to do..when I grow up and get my own car then i'll understand more about my car and i'll be able to fix it. So if I get a turbo now and mess with my car while I still live with you guys then I can learn from my mistakes. So when I am older I save money and do all the work myself on my family's car"

heres what I did. I worked my ass off and saved, bought the kit. My mom knew all about it, but my dad never knew a thing (parents are divorced), Then after I isntalled the kit I went to my dads on one of 'his' weekends and told him I did it-- and offered to let him go test drive. He loved it...and theres no going back after it's turboed....unless you wanna do lots of work.

well, the only thing with buying it and having it put on without them knowing is that my dad knows a lot about cars. I know more about my car then he does but still, he would notice if i had it. If I wanted to buy it online however, I would need a credit card. Now I have one, but my father recieves all the bills. I might be able to go and get a shop to order it for me. Then once I have it I could go ahead and install it but the shop near me wants $500 to install. So, I went to the Advanced Autotech teacher at my highschool and asked if he would like a project and I am just thinking about letting him use my car as a project for the class. The kids in the class do a really good job and I would trust them not to mess anything up and install the turbo correctly if they followed the instructions. They fully restored a 1989 Trans-am and turned it into a policecar for the student resource officer at my highschool. As soon as I sell all of my paintball stuff I will have enough for a Hahn stage 1 or a NER stage 1C. When I sell the paintball stuff I will have exactly $2310. I'm thinking of just saving up my money so I can just go with the Hahn or NER stage 2 so I can have the FMIC which is what I want most because I dont want to overheat. Will I have too much of a problem overheating without the FMIC? thanx for all the help guys.

Well, i had a somewhat serious conversation with myself tonight and my 2 brickwalls of parents and I played my "ITS MY FRIGGIN HARD EARNED MONEY!" card and I seriously think it worked on my mom. She said she will talk to my dad about it. She is really worried now about me getting it though cause a kid just died in a car wreck 2 days ago. I told her that in a mature debate that there shouldnt be a "this is how it is" there should be a compromise so she said that the first ticket or wreck that I get in that my car will be taken away till im 18 emoji. I guess im just going to have to be extra careful, but I havent gotten a ticket in about 8 months and I dont speed anymore except about 5 mph over. I'm getting excited cause it is starting to work on my mom at least.

custom imports are hot and getting hotter right now. tell your parents its an investment, and if you ever wanted to sell the car, you could get a higher price and have an easier time selling it. ive used that one many times when people ask about my audio system emoji
