#28382, "Boost w/o Intercooler"

How unsafe would it be to use a turbo charger without a Intercooler, for now? (I have no money, any donations? emoji )

I'm going to run at 4~5 psi until I get enough money for the Intercooler.

Thanks

~Tacoman

Fine to 4psi or possibly 5 with a built motor. For quite some time i was pushing 10-11 psi in 3rd gear pulls w/o an intercooler, but still hoping no damage came of it. Car is running fine.

I have a 2g SMIC and a Audi 5000 IC you could have for next to nothing and shipping. Hell I need a set of Magnacores and I'll trade you both if you pay ship for them.
Oh yeah I built my SMIC from a 1g and pipe made for under 50 bux. But I ran a Star Stage I for a year and half at 5 psi.

Shit is all apart. Typical...

non intercooled turbo sux haha. Well it's ok but it gets hot really quickly. The engine bay gets very hot cuz your ramming in all that hot air which in turn raises your EGTs etc. etc...

only boosting 5psi isn't going to create that much heat, more than a na engine, otherwise they probably would sell all the kits with at least a sidemount

During cold nights I'd boost 8psi with my stage 1..it was fun and I'm sure that it was not very healthy. I'd say 5 at the most..upgrade your thermostat and drain/ fill your radiator just to be safe. On a hot day it'll get real hot but during the night you should be fine. It's also nice to have instant boost at the tap of the throttle

I think you would have to get it custom made, remember, follow the diameter of the pipes, as the same as your compressor. Or I think you can get it from HRC, correct me if I'm wrong..

I used 2" (as did somebody else) and had an exhaust shop make it. I did the whole deal for under 50 bux including the IC. OZ_GS took a pic of my engine and posted it just as a test. It's under his for sale of an intake in the FS/WTB section.

a friend told me to that, but i wasn't sure if everything would run good. I might do that for now since it is cheap until i get the fmic in january. Does anyone know if the HRC Pipe Kits would fit the smic for the DSM engines? If anyone know please let me know.

The HRC side mount IC piping will fit the 1g side mount IC, but it will not line up perfectly. You will need to modify the piping at the IC both on the inlet and outlet. The HRC sidemount mounts on the car a little bit differently then the 1g IC. The piping i believe from HRc is around 200 bucks. I have the 1g IC, and i got custom exaust piping made for it, and its working just fine for now.
